Took the plunge.

I started lurking around the forum about a month ago, figured I'd make the formal introduction.
I'm 29. Been shaving the head with clippers, no guard, off and on since high school, purely for the lack of maintenance and financial obligation. About 3 years ago I noticed the ol' forehead growing, and about a year and a half ago the hair on the front of my head started noticeably thinning. I'm not one to get insecure about this kind of thing, but I'm also not one to try to "hang on to what I've got" nor take any medicinal or surgical actions. Since the thinning started I've pretty much kept it buzzed. About a month ago I got the urge to take it down even further, however, I didn't want to go the razor route. I've always hated shaving and have kept a beard the majority of the past 10 years (my current beard is at about 18 months growth). I started looking into other options (which is what brought me to this forum) and found a few recommended clippers that gave the bald look. I found a set of Wahl Balding Clippers for sale on Craigslist for cheap and decided to pull the trigger. While they definitely gave a super close buzz, they left my head extremely irritated and itchy, and the stubble even made it very uncomfortable to wear a hat (which I wear often). I only used the balding clippers a couple of times before I couldn't take it anymore. I spent a couple of days browsing the forums, checking out the different routines that folks had. Two weeks ago I finally lathered up and put the blade to the scalp. I've shaved almost everyday since and absolutely LOVE IT. Wish I would have done it much sooner.
Thanks for all the great info you guys have provided me! Looking forward to learning more!

Welcome Scott. Great story.
Doesn't seem like there are any obstacles to your maintaining the Sly look ... other than the perceived maintenance of it.
But in my opinion, that daily reward of total SlickDom is SO worth it.
Stick around. Great bunch of guys here with lots of interesting topics. Some are not even shaving-related!

Wow, blade to the scalp. Sounds like a nice daily routine! Head Blade, from my opinion.
Welcome. Love the beard with a bald head. My beard is about 32 years old (although trimmed weekly).
