Cool song, I listened to both versions, and I don't think they butchered it. It's not as good as the original, but for what it is it's a good cover (Might be a little biased due to my musical tastes...)

I guess that maybe I am biased to but 98% of remakes (covers) of songs are never as good as the original, I guess I have to get used to heavy metal (Smashing Pumpkins isn't a bad band, I just don't care for their cover of this song). I think it's because 1. they skip the aforementioned critical verse in the song and 2. They altered some of the words from the original in their version....my 0.02 (We might disagree here, but I'm still cool with you, Beardman! ;D)

I didn't pick up them changing words or dropping a verse... But don't worry man, you can disagree with me all you like, that's the beauty of music, everyone has opinion :D

I just listened to this track and I love it! This sounds weird but they are like a cross between Tom Waits and the Decemberists, great stuff.

This is the one for me this week. Many have performed it but in my opinion Jeff Buckley does it best:

I'm a huge Jeff Buckley fan, and his version really is miles above the rest. An incredible talent lost far too young.

If you didn't watch "The Voice" last night you should watch this. It was a heart wrenching tribute to the victims at Sandy Hook. Have a tissue close by:

Glad you like it! It doesn't even really fit into the realm of stuff I normally listen to, but the stuff these guys put out jives with me big time. I actually found out about them when looking up "beards" in Google image search, oddly enough.

After recently seeing Rancid live for the first time in a few years here's a nice new Rancid track they were doing on the tour (warning does contain swearing!):

Thanks for sharing Mike, it really is heart wrenching, but a beautiful tribute nonetheless.  I hope all of our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Shameless plug I know, but I thought maybe you'd consider this for yours this week. White Rabbit, Black Monkey, is a side project masterminded by my good friend RJ (he came up with the name... just saying). The audio quality sucks because we just had ambient mics in the room. Let me know what you think.

I saw The Voice do their tribute to the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy by covering Hallelujah. I'd have to say my favorite cover of that song was done by John Cale.

On a side note, I've been playing The Lumineers album pretty much nonstop for a week or so. My favorite track on there has to be a song called Big Parade.
