Tom:
I have had both female and male Drs do the procedure. I just had the scope in the bladder again last week and a female did all the prep work for that too. The last time I had that done 8 years ago I had a female prep my privates and a female Dr did the procedure...
I'm afraid that if I had a female prepp my privates "Mr. Woody" would make a surprise appearance...........
Mike, when I get the procedure I am so nervous that there's no chance of that happening....LOL
Haven't had it done yet,,, but I guess it's coming soon, I'm 43. SERIOUS question for you all,, I have a female doc,, who has very thin fingers,, will a female doc do the exam,,, or in todays society of lawsuits will she refer me to a male? TRUST ME I would much rather have a woman with skinning fingers do it than a male.
Tom
Tom, my doc female and does this proceedure every year. There is always a nurse in the room. It is serious business and it really is no big deal.

I'm in the National Guard, so once you're 40, you have to have it done every year. I've had it done 2x & it really isn't that bad. It's a little unnerving though. I really don't think that I could have a woman doctor with a nurse in the room that is also female. I'd be way too self-conscience.
Good luck all!!
*Shuddering* I know I need to go have this done (I'm 42) But I keep remembering Dennis Wolfberg's stand up routine on it...he compares the proctoscopy

to having a submarine launched...ummm...up there.
I know this thread is a few years old, but it may be critical. I'm 39 now, but I will be 40 in four days. Is this something I should do now, or is it better to wait till 45 or 50?. BTW, my next doctor's appointment is July 17th.

Harry-
I asked my doctor about this a few years back. If you haqve qany ZFamily hisotry they recommend 40.... other than that I think it's 45 (or 50).
Please!!!.... ask your doctor just to be sure!!
And at 50, they recommend a colonoscopy. I have another 6 years before I have to go through that again at 60.
Colonoscopies after 50 are very important.
had one at 51 and 57. It's a must.
I've also heard 40 is when you want to start being serious about prostate exams.
I'm only 31, but I have a family history of prostate cancer, so I will probably get checked even before the big 4-0.
I also implore other men to do this. It has saved lives, like Rudy Guliani's.
