What Razor for a BBC Guy (much hair) Shaving Everyday?
« on: April 17, 2012, 02:38:52 PM »
Hey Fellas, I know that there has been lots of discussions on this subject, but wanted to put a sort of different spin on it.

I'm Bald By Choice (BBC), and you can see what I started with before shaving (see below).  I started off shaving every other day, but the last few days I've been shaving every day.  I'm currently using the Hydro 3, but I noticed that after 3 shaves with it, It wasn't getting near as close as it should be.

For you Sly guys with much to shave, what have you found to get you the best results?  I tried the blue jean trick, but it didn't seem to work a lick (maybe I'm not doing it right or enough passes).

What say you?

Hmmm, the blue jean trick kinda sorta worked for me. I use a Gillette Fusion Pro Glide.

I have more hair than you do. Definitely BBC here.

I use both the headblade and a Shick Hydro 5. Headblade does the bulk of the work, and the Schick to catch the rest.  I change blades about weekly on BOTH.  That's about what it takes. I'll switch one blade on Sunday and one on Wednesday or Thursday, so that one or the other is sharper than the other.

When you are shaving all that hair, daily, it just takes more blades. But the slick and shiny head and the sly look is worth the blade expense.

BBC here, with a really full head of hair. I use a Gillette Blue 3 and I use it up to 10-12 times.

Daily shaver here as well. I spray the blades with alcohol after rinsing them with water. Then I leave them on a blade sharpener
I have been using the current blade for about 3 weeks, still very good results, could extend it's use, but will eventually change it later in the week.
What i do is that I still use the blade for shaving my face for another 2 or 3 weeks. I do really care about smoothness on the dome, not so much in the face. I can easily go 3 or 4 days without shaving my face, my dome needs a daily shave

I use the Sensor Excel or Sensor 3 blades, both on regular Sensor handles or the HB Sport

I use a Gillette Fusion razor daily and get about a week of shaves before I notice tugging and pulling (usually on the sides / temples first.)  After a shave, I rinse it well with cold water and blot it dry with a towel.

Here's something you could try for a while: use an electric shaver like one of the Panasonic wet/dry models first, then use a razor to do the final shave.  I did this for about four months and got exceptionally smooth shaves.  The razors also lasted longer because they weren't doing as much work.  After about four months, my scalp was really used to being shaved and I had become very proficient at shaving, so I switched to a shower shave with only the Fusion and get the same results.
