For those worried about women's reactions.
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:17:48 AM »
I first noticed my hair thining out when I was in high school. As time went on it kept getting worse and worse, but I desperately held on to what little hair I had left for 13 years! I didn't have a comb-over so much as a comb-forward, all the hair in back combed to the front. I don't think I was fooling many people, but the ones that couldn't tell just thought I had a very strange way of styling my hair. I got called "Trump" all the time. Every day of those 18 years I feared going outside because the slightest breeze would blow my hair up like a toupee. One of my friends said it looked like that scene with David Spade from Tommy Boy.

There were many reasons I was apprehensive about shaving my head, but the main one was whether or not women would find me attractive. I'm a type B personality, very laid-back and mellow. I rarely initiate any flirtations with women. For most of my life the trend would be that one girl a year would show any kind of interest in me.

After a few months of browsing this site, trying to build up the confidence to shave, I finally did. In the 5 months I've had a shaved head, I've been hit on 7 out the 10 times I went out the bars with my friends. It's not just lighthearted stuff either, there was no wondering "was she just being nice or was she really into me?" I'm talking about women singling me out of the group and dragging me out onto the dancefloor without asking me, or just bluntly telling me they liked me or thought I was cute. I'm sure the added confidence of getting rid of that mop on my head has helped. But a few of these girls were perfect strangers whom I didn't even speak to before they swooped in on me.

All I can say is if your worried what girls will think, don't. They dig it, trust me. Another thing I might add is that I've been trying to get out of dead-end warehouse work for 5 years, had interviews for better jobs but no offers. The one and only interview I had since shaving my head, I got the job. Might be a coincidence, but it's something to think about.

Just shave it off. Like my uncle told me: "You had the Donald Trump doo going, but you told that $#!t 'YOU'RE FIRED!"

that's true, good for those who need it.
be who you are, say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter

How old are you? I'm only 17 so I don't know if girls my age would feel the same.. I mean I had my head shaved, and I'm still keeping it at a no-guard clipper length, but I have no gel/lotion stuff that I need. I have a razor but I don't want to risk getting these little bumps like I did last time, they weren't red for the most part, but they were all over and I could feel them easily when I touched my head.

Anyway I really don't care too much about girls right now. I already lost my virginity when I was 16 so I feel like I don't need to rush 'before I get too old'. But still, it would be nice if some girls thought I was attractive.. Also, I know what you mean about getting the job. When I was bald or 'sly' for the short time that I legitimately was, I got some positively abnormal reactions from people, and seemingly more respect. Which I don't usually get, because I'm one of those shy cowardly looking people with my head down all the time, and I wear a hood a lot. And wearing a hood while your head is smooth is AWESOME but your hood slides all over the place and gets crooked very easily. In fact I just decided.. Literally, I just now decided after looking at these emoticons (strangely enough) that I'm gonna shave it today. Hopefully no bumps this time. Sometimes I worry because I think I'm more attractive looking with like inch long hair sticking up but then I just realize no matter what my hair looks like, I'm no model.. so I might as well do what I want.

Screw anyone who doesn't like it.
At least I know you guys won't poke fun at me.  O0

Try applying witch hazel after your shave. It'll help reduce bumps/redness.

Welcome to the Forum.... that's an excellent first post.

And Dude...... it wasn't "coincidence"..... it's new found "confidence".
