There's absolutely nothing wrong with your head shape. When people post about head shape problems, I can sometimes see why they're concerned, though the problem is usually not nearly as bad as they think it is. In your case, the problem is entirely inside your head.
You do have a considerably receded hairline, which doesn't seem to have shifted a whole lot in the past six years. But the recession will continue, even if it is a very slow and drawn out process and at some point you are going to need to shave your head in order to look your best. I don't think you're there yet, so if you're not comfortable with the idea of shaving, then don't do it yet.
Take a look at other guys with shaved heads -- guys on this site and guys you may see in public and you'll see that their heads are all different shapes and sizes and there's nothing really unusual about the vast majority of them to make you take notice. But I guarantee you that most of those guys could name something about their head -- or their bodies in general -- that they'd change if they could.
You also really need to stop worrying about what your friends think. I guarantee that if you shave your head and keep it shaved for any length of time, the comments will stop because they'll know you aren't bothered by your hair or lack thereof.

Your head shape is just fine. I'm not sure what you need for convincing but it is really fine.
With your receeding hairline the sly look is made for you.

The problem is definitely your head. The inside that is. The outside is so perfectly symetrical and even I don't know why you think there's a problem. I couldn't even begin to imagine a problem.
I guess it's like the anorexic skeleton of a person that looks in the mirror and sees fat.
Razor is right. If you're not ready, it doesn't look bad if you want to keep it. While it has receded, it doesn't look like it's thinned. I finally decided to shave mine not because of the recession but because of the thinning.

I think you would look better fully shaven.

The only problem with your scalp is that you have too much hair. Shave it down. You have a perfect head shape. It will look very 'smart' shaved bald. Give it 30 days. You'll enjoy it. You've had your hair quite short for many years. Time to go bald.

Agree that you should try shaved rather than tight buzz. Also consider a beard, not just a shadow beard either, a real beard at least 1/2" at the chin. Fortunately you share what a lot of us mpb guys have, pretty good genes for facial hair that came paired with the genes for mpb.
If after thirty days you don't like it, the hair will grow back and you can shave off the beard. And if your "mates" give you trouble, it's probably either that they can't grow a decent face brush or that they're losing their top knot too and are putting the trouble on you to keep the spotlight off themselves.

Agree with everyone else here. Your head shape is made for shaving. Go sly.
Take 30 days trial. I reckon you will be much happier with your new look in a month's time, than you are now.
