when your bbc - does the family ever stop?
« on: November 21, 2011, 11:15:40 AM »
Hi there,

I am bbc - most part.
If I have mpb I am at the early stages, but never had great hair and temples grew and the hair at the hairline is thinner.
I could still have hair, but decided to take the bull at its horns and take it all of, before it gets worse, and enjoy my bald head.

So, usually for familyaffairs I let it grow for a few days, so I have some stubble and they would allways say:
you would look so much nicer if you would let it grow a bit.

So this time i had it completely smooth for the first time and they said it again.
I know I am old enough ;-)
I tell them, the hair isn't great anymore and that I like it - but the topic comes up again and again.

So, does anyone have any suggestions how to put an end to this without offending them?

Regards
baldaholic :-)

Well you could lie and tell them they have a great suggestion and that you are going to let it grow....you could say it is the current style and all of your friends are doing it. But don't say that you joined a religious cult, they won't like that.

My mother has forever wanted me to look like her favorite soap opera leading man...cut my hair, let it grow, the beard is to long, to short, geez, it can drive a guy nutz.

If you are the same ol' nice guy, they'll get over it and let you back in the family. Good luck!

Families--whatever language, where ever located--are much the same.  The children will always be children, and hence subject to the commands and wishes of their elders.  That's what they want, but they have to accept, and often won't for a really long time, that it's the 24/7 guy that has the vote, period.

I'm in the same position:
my mom is neutral
my sister loves it
my dad hates it, but I don't give a sh*t
my gramma hates it, she wanna see me with hair
but my GF loves it, and I do love it, and it's all about me, hell with the others!
keep the dome, bald is freedom, bald is beautiful.
f*ck the world!

Graciously thank them for their concern and feedback and let them know that the subject is closed. After that, it's STFU.

Ditto. TheSlyBear hits the nail on the head again.

I had a few friends and family members dislike it for the longest time. I have always kept it smooth when I am around them. Finally I was at a family get together and my aunt said something along the lines of "I guess you must like it if you've kept it this long and keep it maintained and I see some of your cousins copying your style so it seems mainstream now". I have other family that is still against it but I just keep it smooth and they say/think what they want, I just don't let it bother me

After 15 years of being bbc, (on and off for the first 6 years, becoming thoroughly bbc in the last 9 years), I don't hear any negative comments from my family. They have gotten used to my baldness. hehe.

My family (immediate) is pretty much used to it now after 9 straight month of BBC. I haven't seen much of my extended family so I don't know how they'll react when they do.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Hi guys,

thanx everybody for your comments.

@ Mike:
I guess continuity does the trick and it makes sence to keep it smoooooooth for the forthcoming familyevents :-)
XMas is coming up soon.

@Doug and Kalbo:
9 months do sound a lot better than 15 years. ;-)

@paul.eboy:
yes, bald is beautiful

@slybear:
it makes sence to put my foot down and to let them know that it is my choice of style, but i guess, I am to polite for "STFU" ;-) I'll do a firm but more diplomatic approach :-)

And besides the occasional familyaffair I have a ball with my smooth dome!

Regards
