Got a bucket?

Yeah I've been draining out from the flood that hit NJ last week. I just moved into my house and haven't even been there for a month and Mr. Happy Rain has to go crazy and flood half of Jersey. I wanted to get an inflatable tube and take pictures in my basement with me in my shorts drinking a beer while floating, but I don't think the insurance people would have liked that. Well this was my first flood and I was totally unprepared for it. I was quite the hum-dinger.
Anybody else have some wild or interesting flood stories?

Good to see you could keep a sense of humor through all that Noner. Hope the damage was minimal and your place isn't too bad.

Noner, Good to hear that you can laugh about it ... That's more than the insurance people can do!

There is now this really happy smell in my basement. I had to clean the floors and walls with bleach and now it smels like the cross between jock itch and a swimming pool.
Besides leaving the windows open is there anything that will help get the smell out? The old guy next to me is telling me to sprinkle coffee on the ground and wait a week, then vacume it up. I'm not sure if that will work. I can just imagine..........

I light a match after taking a crap, but I think you would need a lot of matches to get rid of that smell.
Do they have some kind of odor eater stuff at Home Depot that you can sprinkle on the floor?

Try a dehumidifier Noner, that should help to draw out the smell and any remaining dampness that is causing it.

Noner, definately use a dehumidifier but you might want to try some extra strenght febreze also. Bleach will break down in 3 days, but the febreze may mask it till then.

Noner, the dehimidifier will stop the place from molding, which will make it worth every penny. Not sure about the lysol though, it'll kill the germs put may give you a different smell
The febreze may work better, especially on the fabric of the pool table. Just a thought....
