Noticing other Sly Guy's more?

Looking at the most common responses in the thread - I think it's a little of both.

Once you buy a red Mustang, you suddenly notice how many red Mustangs are out there. Once yo've gone sly (or even started thinking about it), you're more likely to notice other sly heads. BUT - I think we all can agree that shaved heads are increasingly common - and certainly more common in advertising than ever before. But also, beyond ads:

- Ever notice that it seems like every NFL team has at least one young sly white guy on the sideline staff?

- When was the last time you saw news with a group of Secret Service or FBI agents when at least one agent wasn't sly?

- In the "real world", when was the last time you were at the gym or Home Depot and didn't see at least a few sly guys?

And I hope this doesn't sound racist, because it's certainly not meant that way, but I have to admit that I'm more likely to take note of a sly white guy. Among African-Americans, shaved heads have always seemed more common and acceptable, and therefore I guess less noteworthy. And, let's face it - going sly is a slightly tougher decision when you know you'll have to deal with the often drastic difference between a tan face and a painfully white scalp when a white guy takes the plunge. It can take weeks if not months for a newly shaved Caucasian scalp to even out and look "normal". As an on/off shaver, I can tell you it's the only thing that makes me hesitate when I decide to shave it all off again.

Surfer, I work in the corporate headquarters of a major US retailer.  Besides the dozens of Sly guys who work in this vast building there are probably at least half a dozen a day who visit.

I try to talk to as many of them as I can.  The guys who work here usually get admonishments that they haven't shaved frequently enough!

I noticed that after I came back to it there were alot of other firefighters that shaved their heads as well. of course this is breast cancer awareness month and some of us just dont look good in pink so they shaved their heads in support.

I agree with that Ironv,  I have chatted with a few of all those including law enforcement, and all professions and they liked it so well they stuck to it.
I think some wanted to all along and needed a good excuse.  Which there is nothing wrong with.  St. Baldrick's I would like to hear more about.

This is so true. Now that imam Sly, I notice every guy who is Sly and want to talk with them about it. Definitely more mainstream now. Changed up my look as someone who dresses up for work and yet gives me confidence.

same here.i see bald guys all over the place now.

I think anytime you do or buy something new, it's natural to look for or notice other people with doing or having the same thing. It's because we are interested or validating. But there are more sly guys than ever before. It's hard to go a day without seeing other sly guys. It's a choice that's here to stay for guys.

I'd agree with that.

Though I catch myself checking to see if the other sly guy has done a better or worse job of shaving their head. Generally, it's 50/50. So reckon I'm average sly guy, it's at all possible....

I think the "commonality" theory has legs but, also, I think that when you're first contemplating doing the deed, you look around for a sort of ad hoc support group. Then, when you're peeled, you look about to see how many other guys have done it and, as best you can tell, nothing serious has happened to them as a result.

However, I also think that when you did it comes into play. Fifteen years ago when I went nude on top, it wasn't as common as it is today; no adverts showing you how a razor or a product could help you get shaved and stay shaved. Without meaning to, I was the occasional centre of attention. I was on television just then and that simple activity almost cost me my position. Now, it's so much more common however, if you've never done it, I'm sure the same hesitation and fear still exists. Actually, I know so, just by reading some notes from first timers....
