Almost at the 30 day mark. Not really counting........too busy enjoying this great new phase of life. Those of you that know my history know I waited a while. All the usual stuff: hesitation, fear of change, time of year, career phases, etc. Then I jumped in with both feet and it has been a great positive change in my life. I am still me, but without the hassle, insecurity, and insincerity of a rug. A few things that I worried about, and noticed.....
1. My family. I thought I might get some blowback from my wife, or my in-laws. Just because it is a drastic change. None at all. My kids love to joke with me about my clean dome, and they rub it for luck. My younger son is 12 and just went with a number 1 buzz, shorter than ever.
2. Friends. They have been surprised but very positive. Someone like me goes into this expecting a lot of flak, but it just did not happen. I hear a lot of "you have a great head shape for that look." Even if they are just being nice, I'll take it.
3. Work colleagues. The easiest to break in on the new look.....some are even jealous. One guy about 10 years older than me said I screwed it up for him because he was about 2 weeks away from a full shave, and now he thinks he'll look like a follower. Most people at work are so busy with work, that they aren't going to spend a lot of time on something which is in its most a basic form a hairstyle change.
Don't get me wrong.......not every person finds it the most attractive look, or prefers it over other choices. Some do, some don't. But most people notice it as a change, compliment you, and then move on. Most people are so wrapped up in their own lives and personal situations that we forget they do not have the time or inclination to obsess over our change in appearance. In the build up to shaving my dome, I foolishly assumed most people who knew me would spend a lot of time caring about my new look. Wrong. They care to a small degree, but life keeps on moving forward at a fast pace.
If it makes you more confident and happy, that radiates through. That is all the end up remembering. Good luck in your decisions to those of you on the fence. Make the decision that will most likely bring YOU the most happiness in your life.
