Going bald or not? Some questions for you from Italy!
« on: May 13, 2011, 07:07:46 AM »
Hy guys, i'm a 21 years old italian boy that is in doubt if going bald or not (sorry if my english is not perfect  :XX)
i'm starting to thin on top and i have to take a decision.

I have some doubts because i have a very light complexion and i don't know if can i go bald...
on the contrary, at least i have medium brown hair (then not very dark) and i don't have a skinny body.

now i have some questions for you:
-Body hairs and hairs grow up at the same speed? because i've tried to shave my arm hairs in order to see how fast they grow up.
-If i shave my hairs every morning, within the evening i will have the same conditions of the morning or my hairs will be more evident?

all my concerns to go bald are about the shadow of hairs. at the moment i still have long hairs (about 40 cm) and i've just started Finasteride, but i know that i have to take a decision.

Sorry again for my english and thank to all for your answers!

p.s. is there any italian sly on this forum? can i know from them how is the bald life in Italy?

I dont know of any Italians on this forum, but who knows there might be one. I'm sure you'll look great bald, most people do its really a natural look. Your friends and family might be wary at first and tell you you look better with hair and to grow it back, but thats ok. For 21 years all they've known you is to have hair so this will be quite the change. Also as far as Finasteride goes there was a report a month or two ago showing that it left some people with irreversible sexual side effects so I would definitely say its not worth it. Whats the point of having hair to attract a mate if you can't even get it up when you go to bed.  :/O Also I think hair grows faster than body hair, I shave my head everyday but I only shave my face every couple days. Though I guess I could shave it more, but I don't bother till it starts getting really grown out. As far as the shadow goes most people will not notice or will simply not care as much about it as we do. Honestly if you think about the self conscious thoughts and concerns we have and than you do a 180 and think about it from another persons perspective they probably are doing the same thing. The human race is basically to inwardly focused to care whether your bald and have a shadow or not. Also I'm pale as snow so your pry darker than me and I'm sly.  ;D Depending on how far along your thinning is you might want to buzz your head gradually down until your ready to take the razor to it. Best of luck to you man.  O0
The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the Past better than it was,
the Present worse than it is & the future less resolved than it will be.

Thanks very much kenny, you're helping me a lot :)

Looking my self in the mirror i'm pretty sure that i will look better without hairs in my head, but there are a lot of concerns that unfortunately block me :(

I live in a little town, i'm scared about the people will tell to me... i'm scared of the shadow of the hairs when the MPB will advance... i'm in a bad period, and i'm trying to find a way to pass over it...

i've also thought to use Toppik, to wear a hairpiece, but this seems to me pathetic, also because i can't imagine if someone discovers that them are not my hairs...

unfortunately i'm very shy and i don't be able to do nothing... the fact is that in my mind i can see myself with the bald look, but i'm blocked :(

Don't worry about what other people think. You can't please everybody and you'll just make yourself unhappy if you try.  As far as the shadow goes, it's really not a big deal.  It's noticeable to us but most other people don't pay any attention.  Based on comments I've heard from people, a lot of them think I'm shaving off a lot more hair than is actually the case, even though I think the tell-tale shadow is pretty obvious.  Regardless, the shadow will still look better than a fringe of hair.

Bottom line: you've expressed an interest in giving it a try, so go for it.  What's the worst that will happen?  The world isn't going to end. If you don't like it, you let it grow back and at least then you'll know for sure whether or not it's the look for you.

If you are still unsure, have your hair buzzed on a #0 grade blade. If you feel the #0 look is ok then it is not too much of a change to a full headshave. People will get used to seeing you bald and what's more, most girls love the look on guys.

Just go for it & don't worry.

Great advise Razor X.

Good luck on your decision. Why not give it a try? IT will grow back if you decide it is not for you.

You are entirely 100% correct--and if you just try sly instead, as advised, you'll find out that you're a different person.  People only live in small towns if they let themselves be confined to the small town mentality.  Take a weekend trip--in Italy that's easy, in a couple of hours it's very different.  Just go to the next region--enjoy their particular special foods--play the tourist, with your sly head.  Then, if you see an American having trouble not understanding the language, help them out you know more English than they do Italian I promise, talk to them, learn about them as they learn about Italy--you'll both be bigger people because of it.  Then when you're back in your small town, you'll be less shy because you've become a man of the world, you've got friends in other places.
