Do people wanna rub your head?
« on: April 26, 2011, 11:34:54 AM »
I realize this whole sly thing is still new for me, so I'm still running into friends who are seeing it for the first time. The reactions continue to amuse me.

But here's a weird one: People wanna rub my head. Like it's Buddha's tummy or something offering them good luck. Now, I have to admit, I kind of enjoy the feeling of running my hands over my smooth scalp myself. It still feels novel and new and cool (and, well, weird with a little bit of that lingering numbness in the back still). But I don't think I've ever felt inclined to rub my hand on anyone's head. I know pregnant women run into this, but I always figured it's 'cause people are hoping to feel the baby kick or something... and I really, truly hope nothing is gonna be kicking around inside my skull that's worth feeling.

How 'bout you? Have you run into this? How do you respond? For me, I just kind of lean forward and let 'em have at it. The reactions are part of that amusing response for me (guys tend to kind of linger and rub it back and forth, like petting a dog, while women often pull back suddenly and say something about it feeling weird).

Ah, it's the little things in life, eh...?

I'm only recently bald and I've had this today, once from a virtual stranger and several times from friends. For luck seems to be the main reason but I think it must just be pure curiosity. I kind of like it but hopefully once the novelty wears off it will stop. My friends wife just offered to give me a head massage and it felt unbelievable, if it was like that every time I'd be fully up for it.

It happened to me during the first week or so of being sly.  I was in a casino and this older woman asked if she could give a rub for luck.   Different......

Happened again last night. A teenage girl came over and just started rubbing my scalp. No words, no asking, just rubbing my head. So I turned to the woman next to me and asked if that's how pregnant women felt, which led to a conversation about people just coming up and touching pregnant bellies and bald head. And the girl just stood there rubbing my head as we talked about how presumptious it was.

So very weird. I think I'm gonna have to draw some lines...

I average about 1.5 headrubs a week I guess.  O0

Went to a wedding last night, and there were friends who hadn't seen me sly yet. Several positive comments, which was nice. Then, at the reception, I was seated at the edge of the room so that everyone walked right by my chair on their way to the buffet. My back was to the line, so they were passing behind me. Several times I would suddenly feel someone's hand on my head rubbing my scalp as they walked by. Bwa ha ha ha!

(Oh, yeah, one cool moment came when a friend -- who has been sly since I've known him -- came up and asked me what I'm using to shave. I explained my delight with the Headblade, and a couple of other guys gathered around to say that they've been thinking of shaving it all off as well. Nifty! I've become a spokesman for being sly! Bwa ha ha ha!
