Today as I logged on to my computer, I noticed that I needed to update AVG. That is not something that is too unusual. But everytime I try to update it, it fails. I then try to go directly to the AVG website and I can't get there. Now I can get to other websites with no problem. But I also can't get to Norton of McAfee. So what do I do? Can anyone give me some advice?
I am not computer savvy by any means but, back in about 2003 there was a virus that specifically attacked anti-virus software. I can't remember the name of it but I had the same problem with Norton at the time. A friend of mine at the place where I worked at the time had received a "patch" from Norton, as well as other AV companies that basically allowed my Norton to bypass the virus and get to the website for updates that were able to remove the virus.
The way he explained it to me the effect of the virus was to prevent the AV program from running scans by somehow shutting the program down every time the user attempted to use the program.
To illustrate how long ago this was he gave me the "patch" on a floppy disc. I'm wondering if you might have to call AVG and find out if they are aware of this problem.
try avast. better than avg. it has caught many trojans. avg leta few thru and norton was the worst, just my opinion.
