Disposables?
« on: December 25, 2010, 08:05:35 PM »
Do any of you guys shave with the generic 2-blade disposable razors? I almost choked when I saw the price of Mach Fusion blades.

I'd need to use 3 a week to keep my head permanently smooth, and the cost is just too much (yes - I'm tight with money), but those disposable blades are so cheap and so long as I use a quality shaving gel and post-shave balm, would my head get used to shaving with disposables every morning?

I did use a disposable once but it was nothing like the Fusion.  One blade lasts about a week and a half for me and I sometimes shave my head twice a day.  You may want to check in to some of the techniques to prolong your razors life.  3 a week seems a little much

The only good thing about disposables is that they are disposable. Throw them away -- before using them.

Christ, general consensus is that they're terrible then.

So do you shave your face as well as your head twice a day? And I guess I need to learn to shave properly and prolong the life of my razors.

I'll admit I am a complete newbie at shaving.

Fusion are expensive anywhere, but they are a good blade.  It would seem to me that 3 a week is really high unless your beard is extremely heavy and coarse.  For my part, when I was shaving my face, or most of it, a Fusion or M5 blade would last a week easily.  Now, just shaving the remnants on the scalp--three weeks easy.  I have found that spraying the blade down w/ rubbing alcohol, 91%, after shaving seems to help too.  Others have stored the blade in a small bowl of olive oil--both methods based on preventing the blade from deteriorating in the damp air.
And twice a day shaving, I haven't done that although I think a couple of guys do.  Once a day is enough for me.

I have a Fusion and M5 as well and I usually buy a 4 pack of blades for each of them and then I'm set for about 2 months maybe a little more.  The total comes to about 23 dollars so I think that is well worth it.  I shave my face about 3 times a week, not quite every day.

I use Mach3 for my face.
A blade lasts about a week.
As for my head,I use the HeadBlade, and a blade lasts about a week, even though I have very coarse hair.
What should also be mentioned is,that Headblade's blades are much cheaper than the Mach3 and Fusion ones.
You should try it,in my humble opinion.(you could buy the HB unit, which comes with 1 blade, try it for a couple of days, and then decide whether or not you wanna stick to using it)
Goodluck!
If you can't beat them,Shave them.....
