Clipper Shaving vs. Wet Shavin
« on: September 07, 2010, 08:53:30 AM »
I tried the wet shaving thing for a while, and I liked the look and feel of it but not the maintenance.  So I've just been clipper shaving every few days.  Anyone else feel this way or should I just suck it up and do it?

David

If by wet shave you mean shaving with a razor than, ya thats what I do. I used to shave with a noguard for about a year until my hair thinned to much and been sly for the past 3 1/2 months.
The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the Past better than it was,
the Present worse than it is & the future less resolved than it will be.

Shaving your head shud b something that you look forward 2. A clipper shave will suffice if the other has become a chore.

If I use clippers I get more lumps and bumps than I do if I wet shave.

Hi DA_Carr,

How often did you wet shave?  Maybe if you do it every 4-5 days it wouldn't feel so high-maintenance.  Your hair won't look or feel much different than a no-guard clipper shave after that long.

I used to shave every other day but I've extended it to every 3 or 4 days and it makes shaving much more enjoyable.  It's like an event now.  I take my time and it's very relaxing.  Like Tom said, it's something you should look forward to.

Shaving your head takes 10 minutes at the most.  Is 10 minutes a day really too much maintenance?  Compare that to  how much time some guys must spend gelling and moussing and blow-drying their mops.

There's a minimum amount of primping time that we all must endure to look our best -- and the older you get, the longer it's going to take, so get used to the idea.

I've never gotten razor bumps with clippers with no guard, but I have with razors, until I perfected the way to do it. I would never dry shave anything, my skin is just way too sensitive. I tried different razors and creams until I found the right combination.

It's your head and your hair. Whatever you feel best with is what you should do. Some use clippers and are happy. Others swear by their wet razor of choice. I can't get a close enough shave with an electric.

Whatever you choose is the right thing for you.

You should do whatever you feel best with. I only shave with a razor a few days a week now. With clipper shaving, it just depends on how tight you want to buzz it.  I started out with a regular wahl home clipper without any attachment...but didn't think it was short enough.
Then i moved onto an Andis Headliner for headshaving. That was recommended by a couple barbering supply shops. I used it every day for a while but found it to be more work than using a razor. Now I just razor shave a few times a week before the stubble gets to be too long. That works fine for me and a have a different look within the week

Great advice Razorhead. Good idea to keep a pair of clippers or a professional trimmer in your arsenal in case you want to sport the stubble look off and on between slick sly.
