LUSH Products - my experiences
« on: January 28, 2012, 04:29:07 PM »
Hey all,

I just wanted to share my experience trying out LUSH products. They are a "Fresh Handmade Cosmetics" line using all natural products. They are a bit on the pricey side. I'm not sure where all they are located. They have a couple stores in malls in the area (Dallas, TX). Anyways, they were super helpful and friendly and I just wanted to share my experience with some of the products I tried as part of the never ending search for the right skincare products for me. I might screw up the names of the products FYI.

Angels on Bear Skin (Light facial cleanser/Exfoliant) - It's a claylike substance which I've never tried before. The woman at the store said that it's light enough of an exfoliant to be used as a daily wash. I really like the way it feels afterwards. It leaves a kind of clay feel. If anyone has ever done pottery work it's like a lighter version of the residual feel you get even after you wash your hands. It's quite nice, but unusual. The clayish smell lingers for awhile which could be a plus or minus for you. As a wash I feel like it worked fairly well at cleaning my skin. I've tried Bald Guyz Facial Wash and HeadWash and both felt like they weren't really doing anything. So this is a plus from that. The main problem is that you are supposed to make like a putty using water which I haven't quite figured out how to do right. Also, because it's a putty when I move it from my face to the top of my head I keep dropping it in the shower as it slides off my noggin. This might be something that can be remedied with practice, but so far it's rather annoying to use and if left unmastered would be enough of to stop me from using it again. I bought about a 1 month supply for about $7 to give you an idea of price.

Prince (Shaving Cream) - The key here is that it's a cream. The one thing you should know is that I use an Electric (Panasonic Linear Wet/Dry) for my head and a Gillette Fushion/Mach3 for my face. The cream is very thick and clogs up the electric. It's still useable, but you have to rinse the blade every few seconds. This was a big problem as I was having to go over each area multiple multiple multiple times to get everything. Very annoying. It also didn't get that close of a shave. Again because it's a cream and doesn't actually lather/foam up. The citrusy smell is not that great and especially mixed with the clay sent from Angels is awful. I will not be using this product again. There is a plus. And it's a big plus. Eventhough I had to go over each area of my skin over and over, I was left with ZERO irritation. Like absolutely none. Even on the back of my neck which is ALWAYS an issue. In that sense it's really impressive. It also feels like it's moisturizing on it's own which is kind of neat. I still have yet to find a product that works even half as effectively as Tolsom's shaving gel. That thing just gets unbelievably close. Even with the electric it feels like it did after I got a straight razor shave from a professional barber.

Ocean Salt (Exfoliator) - This product feels amazing. It goes on easily and exfoliates surprisingly well. I can feel the hairs sticking straight up after. It's just rough enough to feel like it's doing something unlike a lot of those microbeads, but not abrasive that it scratches your skin like a scrub with seeds. I've only used this product once, but I'm actually excited to try it again the next time I need to exfoliate. Because the scrubbing particle is various types of salt it starts as an exfoliant and ends as a nice cleanser. My skin has never felt better. and because it dissolves itself I know how much to use and when to stop rubbing my head which I could never figure out with the other products that just rub around my head. I'm always wondering if I'm done scrubbing or not. If there's one pricey product I'll be using it's probably this one. But it's incredibly pricey compared to the cheap St. Ivey's product I'm using now. I only have some samples so I'm not sure how much.

For the future:
Cosmetic Lad? Lady? Something (Moisturizer) - I tried this at the store and it's absolutely magic. I didn't even notice how good it was until long after I left the store and my skin still felt soft and wonderful. Unfortunately this is an incredibly expensive product which is why I didn't even bothered getting a sample, but with how my skin felt afterwards it honestly might be worth it. I will probably go back to the store in a month or so and if I decide to give this a shot I'll post about it. But I'm leaning towards this product being made of magic as an initial review.

Anyways, It's an interesting store with some very unusual products. We'll see how my skin feels after a month of use, but overall I'm impressed. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your review, Dark!
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

As some of you have seen in theBeards section I've been cultivating a handlebar moustache this winter.  Been following another board that is dedicated to them and was steered by posters there to Lush.  I've been having trouble with the ends drying and being brittle etc.  The girls on the sales staff were very helpful (and amused to be dealing with a moustache problem) and I left with several samples to try. Their products are a bit long on scent for my tastes but they work so I'll be going back.  They also have a website and ship at fairly reasonable costs.   I'll second the endorsement!
