Remember what Memorial day is about.

I hate Memorial day and before everyone takes a jump at my throat take a step back.....I'm a Marine, wasn't a career Jarhead nor was I a super high speed low-drag super Marine like a majority of idiots I've seen lately on various forums, in person or on CNN which in fact there more like a bunch of posers or rejects, nope I'm just your ordinary angry as a sumbich Marine who loves this country and everything that it's about and could only think when that family is having that BBQ out in the Park or the knucleheads across the way in my apartment complex, who are glad they get the day off from being servers Chili's and instead of being productive are enjoying bong hits and playing there annoying acoustic guitar ( for anyone that has seen animal house that JOhn Belushi moment constantly comes to my mind ) to even the numerous Illegal immigrants that are taking advantage of the freedoms that everyone who serves provide there's one thing that comes to my mind........have they even factored in why they are here free and safe  Gdamn Humility is a b!@$& . Every day for me is Memorial day, I've lost plenty of Brothers, Best Friends as well as watching them go to shi!@#$&'s to go fight, fight for each other and make sure they come back in one piece.

Too many people think of Memorial Day as the end of a 3 day weekend and forget the significance of it.

I can't stand it either Ryan as you know from our conversations.   Too many people think of  this as just a day to bar-g-que, get drunk and forget the true reason for this holiday.  To all of us who have served, have family or friends who have served, this day is so much more.   I received and made many calls over this weekend and not one of these Marines or their families wished me a "Happy Memorial Day"  but instead reflected on those with whom we served and those we lost.    It is NOT a happy day, it is a day of reflection and rememberance.    Thanks to you and all our comrades in arms who have served and are serving.  God Bless you all

Unfortunately in our area (Myrtle Beach) Memorial Day for years has been taken over by "Black Biker Weekend". The real meaning behind this holiday has been lost. Locals do as best as they can to honor those who are currently serving or have served and especially those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. There are those of us out here however who do and will remember what are great men and women in military have and are doing. Thanks to all of you who are giving it your all to keep us safe.

It’s frustrating to have to listen to the advertiser about the barbecue special for Memorial Day.  None of these people have any idea what Memorial Day is all about.  In the past my long time friend looked forward to a day at the beach on Memorial Day.  Sadly those thought ended right after his brother made the ultimate sacrifice.
 
Sadly and painfully, Memorial Day has now become a day of reflection and remembrance for my troubled friend.  My visit earlier today was just as sad and painful.  Memorial Day has become a day to remember all of our Fallen Heroes. A day to think about the families and friends who forever will grieve for their lost loved one. A day of thanksgiving to those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. For the men who fought and died to win the freedom that we Americans sometime take for granted.

I do not know and cannot understand the pain my friend is going throughout today, but I certainly do feel a different kind of pain for my long time friend.

In 1971, Congress switched Memorial Day, which by then had come to honor the dead of all American wars, from its traditional May 30 to the last Monday in May. The change robbed the observance of most of its original meaning. Today, few Americans bother to think about fallen soldiers on the three-day weekend that kicks off the summerl.
