I agree with basically everything MikeM said.

Like ChallengeMe, I never followed the series on TV (even this last season and the finale).  I watched every episode in a condensed time period of a few months on Netflix and Hulu.

I'm glad it was open-ended and didn't answer everyone's nit-picky questions.  I admit they caught me a little off guard when it was revealed by Christian Shepard that Jack (and everyone in the supposed parallel universe or "real world" of flash-sideways events) was dead.

I always had the hunch that the premise of the show had something to do with Hell, the afterlife, or purgatory, but I thought that place was the island.  I think the writers tied most everything together nicely while leaving plenty of room for speculation and intelligent discussion.

I just watched it tonight so I still need to marinate on this for a while, haha.

To me, LOST was a great character study.  I cared about each one.  I didn't understand it, but I loved it.  The ending was amazing, more than I ever hoped for.

I don't know whether everybody died in the crash or when the H-bomb went off,

We now know the whole H-bomb thing was a bit of a red herring. It got everybody back to the right time -- 2007 -- but it didn't "reset" anything.

When Juliet said "it worked" and the bit about coffee the first time, we now know she wasn't talking about the H-bomb resetting things as Daniel/Jack had thought, but she was talking about unplugging a vending machine to release a trapped candy bar. She was dying, and we and Sawyer could briefly hear her from the limbo universe.

I love coffee from coffee vending machines. What was the idea of unplugging a vending machine to release a trapped candy bar? I don't think so that you can release a candy bar without plugging the machine.
