HB + Atra Plus = blood loss
« on: February 11, 2010, 11:02:59 PM »
I used the original triple blade that came with the HB twice without one nick.  I've only been shaving for about a week and didn't want to risk the blade being dull and causing burn and bumps so I replaced it with the only compatible blade I could find in this po-dunk town I live in, the Atra Plus.  It left me looking like I had been shot with bird shot.

I loved the HB. Now Im not so sure its for me.

Anybody else have a similar problem with the Atra repl blades?

Thanks,
Scott

Everybody's head reacts differently to different brands of blades.  I can use the generic version of the Atra Plus called Personna with my HB, and I have no issues.  Your head might just be different.  If you like the HB triples, you can order them online.  I have also seen them in Walgreen's on occasion.  You may also want to try some others besides the HB, but I am a big fan and have been using mine for 5+ years.

I have the same problem with the Atra Plus blades.  They slice my head up like crazy and I've been using the HeadBlade for a couple of years now.  I use the Sensor Excel blades as I find they are more forgiving.

Same problem here with the Atras.
Scott ... go to CVS and look for their CVS3 brand of blades. You get 4 for $5 and they fit the HB just fine. They are what I use.
If you check CVS often, they sometimes have a buy one, get one half off sale on these. So you get 8 blades for $7.50.

They are great blades.... I get about a week from one of these blades.

I loved the HB. Now Im not so sure its for me.

I got a HB and although I think it is a great example of industrial design, my scalp doesn't think so.  I found that Fusion worked best for me until I found M5.  Never had a serious cut since sly & I put the HB in it's retirement drawer, but it's just my history.

I tried the Atra blades and hated them.  They didn't cut me up, but I got a horrible shave and a lot of irritation when I was done.  I normally use the Sensor Excel blades and have no problems at all with them.  The only reason I tried the Atra's is to try to save some money.  I'll stick to the Sensor Excels.

I use Atra generics in my Headblade and have had no issues. Like others have said, everyone's scalp reacts differently.
Maybe try a different blade. Most people that try the Headblade find it to be easy & effective.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks Sly Bos for the input and info.  I haven't had time to go get any other repl blades, so I went at it again but with the oiginal HB triple blade. NOT ONE NICK!
I guess I have a triple blade style noggin.  O0

I use the Atra Plus blades exclusively on the HB...  They give me the best shave with no nicks whatsoever!   I did try the HB Triples and Doubles and couldn't get a good shave out of them.

But as previously stated, everyone has different experiences!

Atra's are a hit and miss for me, they really irritate me when I do the back of the head and for blood loss, I've gotten a few nicks from them and I think that it's because the blade angle is more aggressive compared to the generic HB's or the Sensor/Excels. So a good rule when using Atra's : You have to be way more careful and apply absolutely no pressure whatsoever.
I used up my HB double blades that I've found lying around after my move and I was actually really surprised how well they worked, you might wanna give them a try.
