Hey Guys,
I am 21 years old, and i am sick of cutting my head shorter and shorter. So about two weeks ago i shaved it all off. i have just recently found out that i must be doing something wrong. I cant get a clean skin, hairless head, like Howie or you can say the Mr. Clean look. I guess you can call it shinny, the reason is because the sides of my head have thicker hair than the top so i don't want it to be seen, or my bald spot. Please help a fellow bald man. Here are the steps i take to shave my head.
1. Take a shower
2. Use Gillette Fusion Gel on my head
3. Use Gillette Fusion Stick to shave head (shaving against my hair)
4. Wash Hair, Apply after shave (cool wave)
Also i get alot of razor bumps, alot of them on the side of my head. Please help me!!!
You're not doing anything wrong. You're in the stage, as we all have been, where every shave is an experiment. As you continue in slyness you will find your path and it will be different, even if only slightly, from everyone else.
You might try experimenting with different gels/creams/soaps, etc. I used to use the Edge gels, they worked pretty well for me and I would still use them in a pinch. Right now I am consistently using Head Slick on top of Shave Secret Oil (Walmart) and I occasionally use King of Shaves gel.
You might also want to consider using the Head Blade. These can be bought at Walgreen's and some other drug stores as well as online direct from Head Blade. I started off with a Classic, went to the Sport (matchbox wheels), and am now using a Ghost which is a clear plastic Classic (say THAT 5 times fast!).
My point is that everyone in here has experimented a lot in order to find what works for them. By the time you find the path that is the right one for you you will have enough shaving equipment accumulated to open your own store.
If you are consistently left with stubble what I have found that works is to feel the scalp with the fingertips while the scalp is still wet in order to determine where the stubble is and which direction it grows, then scrape against the grain.
But the main thing is to never tire of experimenting. For me part of what makes scraping the dome fun is experimenting with new techniques and supplies, most of which I read about in here.
Hey there,
you are experiencing the "shadow". That is a big surprise to everybody when they start to shave their head.
Depending on your hair and skin colors it is more or less intense.
Don't be fooled by the clean bald looking guys on TV or in movies or ads. They often cover it up with make-up.
Have a look at Howie in this picture:

Your scalp may tan a little bit over time and also by experimenting with your shaving routine the shadow may get less notable. Also you will get more used to it, give yourself some time.
Check out the thread about shaving routines:

How do you deal with shadow??
How do you deal with shadow??
Just like jam1e said, you'll get used to it. Those that don't have any shadow somewhere, most likely don't have any hair AT ALL in that location. Tanning might help. The newly revealed, freshly shaved dome can be a bit ghostly, making any shadow more obvious. So get a bit of sunlight on that dome, or apply some self-tanning lotion, like Jergens Natural Glow.

Like the guys have said, you get used to it. It was very uncomfortable for a lot of us at first, that includes me. As I recall that feeling it was, "Damn, I've shaved the mpb off, and here is this shadow reminding me that I'm going bald!

" After your scalp has had time to even out colorwise, and you see that all mpb guys who have gotten in front of this situation have some degree of "shadow" you mellow out and realize it's just so much better than the combover, the double hairline in front, etc. So as time, and not that much time really, goes on you will find acceptance of it. Now there are some for whom this is such an issue that they elect to have the remnants lasered. For myself, it isn't an option I would take, but it's there if that's what you ultimately decide to do.
The shadow is quite often less noticeable than you think, mostly other people won't spend that long looking at your dome to try to decipher the shadow or will simply not notice at all. I admit that I have fairly light coloured hair, but quite alot of people seem not have realised that I am balding, although I can tell from the shadow that I am, but probably as I spend more time looking at my head than anyone else. A suntan I think helps, photos of me from the summer seem to have no shadow at all that I can see.
