About moisturizer, exfoliation and shaving creams.
« on: December 29, 2009, 08:55:37 PM »
Hello guys. I'm new here and in the art of head shaving  :). I have been shaving my head for about two weeks, and I'm still learning tips. My question would be basically about a good shaving cream for you (Less irritation, less cuts, etc), a good moisturizer (and when to use it). My interest in exfoliation is: what it is, how do you do it and when do you do it.
It would be very helpful guys if you can give names of commercial products (i.e. Gillet, Nivea, Shick, etc), because I live in Colombia, and most of the products you have discussed in past threads are not able here. Thanks for your help.

Welcome Juan!

I use HeadBlade products available on line.  HeadSlick to shave, HeadShed to exfoliate and HeadLube to moisturize.

HeadSlick works very well as a shave cream making the shave smooth and helps eliminate cuts.

HeadLube comes in glossy and matte.

HeadShed is a concoction with tiny grape seeds in it that actually act like sand paper and remove all dead skin as you massage it on your scalp.  I only use it about once a week or so.  Good stuff!

Welcome to SBG!
I'm using HeadSlick also and it works really well. I have been trying some generic shaving gel from a drugstore and it wasn't bad either.
Before applying the HeadSlick i exfoliate with Ginseng Actif Daily Face Wash by Yves Rocher. They say "it prepares the skin for a close, smooth shave, thanks to micro-beads that lift up the hair".
The After-Shave Balm of the Ginseng Actif series soothes and moisturizes. I like it better than HeadLube matte because that seems to enhance the oiliness of my scalp.

In the evening after I shower I'm using the Ginseng Actif Moisturizing Face Lotion.
As you see I'm mainly using the Yves Rocher stuff. Unfortunately they don't have a shaving gel.

I use a mild anti-bacteria acne soap, Cuticura, to wash my face and scalp at least twice a day.  I use Headslick, but caution one of the brothers, RazorX has had a bad allergic reaction to this product so use caution if you note any breaking out of red bumps and the like.  There are lots of shave cremes & gels out there, so try several to see which one works best on your dome.  I always use an astringent after rinsing off, for me the best is hydrogen peroxide, but again there are many other products that also accomplish this function, witch hazel and several branded astringent lotions.  Then I use a little mix of hydrocortizone and benzoyl peroxide--if this all seems extreme note that I have had skin problems all my life so I'm obsessive on this subject to maintain a really clean and clear scalp.  Finally, I use Nivea Extreme, a great after shave balm.  And, then there is sunscreen--my favorite is Banana Boat, but on really hot sunny days, I use Neutrogena 70 spf--it's a little greasy, but the shine is incredible.  I usually wash it off once I'm out of the sun because of the greasy factor.
