I need a good routine
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:34:21 AM »
Im a newbie in the head shaving business I just did it for the first time and, needless to say i didnt do very well. It looks fine and all but i got some razor burn and cuts on the back. How do you guys shave the back without being able to see it? I irrirated the hell out of my skin and its super dry and flakey.

any good moisturizers work? like just plain body lotion be okay for my head?

There are any number of SBG threads on this subject for you to research, Morthen. Here is a good one to review:

Check them out and experiment. Like I mentioned in your other thread, everyone is a little different, and what works for some might not work for others. But a fresh blade is critical. It sounds like you were dragging a less-than-optimal blade across your dome. And take your time. Gotta get used to using your sense of touch and the feel of your razor, since you can't see what's going on back there.

Folks will chime in with their favorite moisturizers and astringents, I'm sure, but go through the thread above for some great ideas.

In the beginning  I also  cut myself and had razor burn but after a while of using different shaving gels and  moisture gel  - -it all happens  - - -I now use Bald Guyz moisture gel and shaving gel and I am very happy and I get the dome shine that I love

There is a ton of this type of info on the forum.

Here's a quick and dirty rundown of my routine:

Shave in shower.
Undercoat of olive oil, with shave gel over the top.
I shave above ears, then sides, then back then top.  Go against the grain for best results (if this irritates wait for a week or long enough for you skin to toughen up abit).
Another tip is wet your head ahead of time and let the warm water soften up your hairs for better results.
As your are shaving, run your other hand over that area afterward and feel for leftover hairs.
It's like mowing the lawn, if you can still feel stuff go over that area again.
You should use a fresh blade, a Mach 3, Fusion, Headblade or some kind of top level razor.
I rub a small amount of lotion into my head after the shave to soothe any irritation and dryness.
