I haven't heard much of Dire Straits, just what gets played on the radio, but I love what I have heard. I wish that I was around in the 60's through 80's, just so I could have witnessed the birth of all that great music first hand.
Right now I can't get enough of the mandolin. John Paul Jones is probably my biggest musical idol. He is the entire reason why I decided to buy a mandolin. Now I know that it doesn't sound like a rocking instrument, but it's really a nice change from the guitar. And if you've got guys to jam with you'll have tons of fun with one.

Yeah, but you'd be around 40 yrs old!
You could probably go on Ebay and pick up some Dire Straits CDs pretty cheap. Their best albums are Making Movies, Love Over Gold, Communique, and their self titled debut album.

Welcome slowhand, great to have you with us. I admire your decision to go SLY in support of your friend. Tell your lady friend she is also more than welcome to join us here. The more the merrier!! I can tell ya that I miss the numb feeling from a freshly shorn scalp. It's great though, I'm one of the guys on here who is BBC and not going back.......ever!!
Post some pics after the big event!
Keep it SLY

Welcome, Slowhand. You've made the right decision, judging from your pic. Your poneytail can migrate to your chin in the form of a well groomed goatee or beard. Next to the comb-over, the bald head-cum-poneytail clinging to the rim is the most lamentable look. In retrospect, you may wonder why you waited so long. All best, Professor Melon

Thanks for all of the support guys. Before I was just sort of alright with this, but since last night I've been so pumped for this I couldn't sleep! Seriously I'm so tired right now. But today at 12:30 the deed will be done, and now I know there will be no regrets!
If SBG wasen't around, I'm not sure if I wouldn've gone through with this. My friends don't seem to understand the delima of thinning hair, but I've found some excellent people here I can relate to! So thanks again!
I'll post my pics as soon as I can.

Wow what a chick! Sounds like a kick ass friend. Congrats on going sly =) I'm of the opinion you should either have long hair or none at all. Represent the Sly!

Hi Slowhand. I'm glad to hear your ponytail went to help those in need. I had my ponytail cut off Thursday morning and donated it to WigsforKids. Yesterday the rest of the hair got buzzed at the barber and then shaved with a straight razor.
The folks on this site definitely helped me in the attitude adjustment department! It's good to see people embracing the Sly look and not hiding under hats or being ashamed of a nude noggin.

Congrats to bronco and slowhand on their gracious donations to charity and joining the group. I must also add I was SHOCKED at the numb feeling I had for the first 4 days after being bald, it was crazy but refreshing.
