I fell off the wagon for a week - and I'm surprising ashamed of myself. I think it was a matter of trying the "doughnut" look just to verify that I'm completely comfortable with shaving. I had been sly for about 2 weeks after removing the dead animal from my head -- when I had this nagging feeling that I needed to at least try the doughnut. I hid my head in a stocking cap for that week -- and after looking in the mirror at all that gray hair -- it finally clicked that sly is the only way I'll be from now on. I think it was a good reality check for me -- a) I'm never going back to a rug, and b) now that I see what I look like with a doughnut of gray hair -- I never want to go back there again. I also shaved off my goatee as it was mostly gray.
The interesting thing is that while I was growing my hair out a bit I did notice a definite shift in women paying attention. I went from the look of confidence and taking control to one of an old guy who's losing his hair. As soon as I buzzed it off and pulled out the headblade -- the response from women has switched back on. I went into the hospital this morning for yet another CAT scan and the nurses were chatty -- something I didn't see last week when I was in for an MRI.
Back sly and here to stay.
I had never heard it called a "doughnut" before.
It's good to experiment, Todd. I think it was wise to try growing it back, especially coming from someone that was going the "rug" route previously.
Sounds like you came to the right conclusion.
No biggie...you just realized you don't really like doughnuts! Sometimes you have to experiment to solidify your SLY decision was the right move.
After having hid the "donut" for so many years with a dead animal, it's totally understandable that you wanted to see "balding" vs. Bald as in Sly. It is true, being a balding man puts you in a sort of underclass--guys people kind of look at without any admiration. Bald on the other hand commands respect because it is such a statement of self-respect.
Someday you may decide to go for Face Fuzz, that's just a fun thing to do, whether you decide to do it permanently or occassionally--it's an option open to you.
Welcome back Tod!!

I have a lot of grey in my goat..... but what the heck... I've earned every one of those grey strands......
Nothing wrong with an occassional reality check. Especially if it helps keep ya focused and sly
No shame in trying something but you came back to reality
What's up with the MRI?CAT? Are you OK?
On a personal note, I am at day 6 being sly
An incredible week of "showcasing" and getting a mixture of different looks
and comments. Mostly positive. One woman thought I looked taller (not enough for the NBA)
Of course, I expected the feedback and as each day went by, my anxiety lessened.
Christmas Eve will be the Family Unveiling..Can't wait for the mother-in-law comments..somewhat prepared but the local ordinance doesn't allow firearms in the house
So as I conclude week #1, I feel good about the decision but I'll tell
you this cold weather is wreaking havoc on my dome
Anyway, enjoy the holidays and keep in touch
steve
If you had liked the look with hair, there's no reason you shouldn't have kept it! I grow my hair back on occasion because my wife likes it, she's worth it! Nobody can tell you what's right for you but you! That's what "sly" is all about.
