What's new is old--
« on: November 20, 2011, 06:51:32 PM »
Watching tonight's news and the campus police at UCDavis using pepper spray on demonstrators--total over reaction, but what started rattling around in my head is that I've been here before--1960's, expressed in music by

Discouraged, total over reaction by one side, total bad manners on the other--and it's not working for either side!  This is 50 years later and still it's the same old, same old--and the fellow man, well that the other guy is a person too is still a lesson to be learned.  Very discouraged, maybe it's the proof that evolution is only an unproved theory :(.

The over reaction by security forces at UCDavis looked like something out of 1930's Nazi Germany. The security people involved have been suspended and the chancellor is talking about resigning. What next, armbands with the swastika emblem. Disgusting, infuriating.

Very true guys. Seems like we're going full circle sometimes, like we've learned nothing.  >:(

Give violent humans weapons and unbridled authority and then oppose them with a demonized enemy and it's a recipe for a disaster.

"Remember Kent State".

Yes Tom, of course........I also remember the Contras in Nicaragua and being in El Salvador during their war. I wondered and thought about how these humans with the same language, the same religion, the same culture, the same poverty and the same color can be exhorted by authoritarians to murder, torture, disappear and commit the most violent atrocities imaginable. At that time I thought it could only happen there.
