Just a pointer for you guys who want to try "chicory" coffee.  All the local producers, Cafe du Monde, aka CDM, French Market, Community Coffee, make several types, so be sure when you're ordering to ask for "dark roast with chicory".  Contrary to some misunderstandings, the chicory is actually the "sweet" part of the taste-and counterbalances the effects of dark roasting the beans before grinding.  It's a great way to drink coffee.

Grind my own beans every morning -- usually get whatever is available at Sam's - sometimes it's Millstone, sometimes it's a generic (Fair Trade or something like that).  Sometimes I get Wal-mart's 'Java Paradise' brand.  I ususally choose either Colombian or French Roast 'flavors.'  I too have learned to like iced coffee this year.  I always thought it sounded nasty, but no longer.  How I like it is quite simple... crushed ice from my refrigerator, add the coffee, and then add the Coffee-mate refrigerated flavoring such as Hazelnut, French Vanilla -- way cheaper than buying it and just as good.  I find that I drink iced coffee very slowly.  When i drink it hot, it has to be HOT.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Has anyone heard of Maryland Club coffee.  We used to get it here in Houston, but all at once-gone.  I do love my coffee but I'm no gourmet'  I use an electric percolator.  Some of the older guys will remember the electric Corning Ware pots.  I look in all the flee markets for these.  I hate the plastic taste that you get with the newer coffee makers.

Andrew:  Yes, I know I will eventually start roasting and grinding my own beans for ultimate flavor.

SaintC:  I haven't been to Central Markup in awhile (until I get that six figure lawyer job, lol), but I have heard it's available there.  I'll hit it up soon.

PapaDon:
The italian "espresso" burners aren't too different from percolators, either way it's better than drinking it from a drip maker.  I think the paper filter takes out alot of that oil from the coffee beans and zaps it of flavor.
If you can see those little swirls of oil at the top of your cup, you know it won't give you the taste and jolt you need.

Understand entirely, but there is the trick my daughter used while at UT Austin, she'd do some lite shopping, and knosh on the samples, and buy the absolutely necessary luxury items--you really can fill up on the samples on Saturday and get some great tastes--I really like Central Market.

I remember those old percolaters quite fondly Don.

If I do buy coffee it's from Tim Hortons, and usually for someone else. I drink tea and hot chocolate.

I think Central Market sells CDM w/ chicory.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it in their stores.

or just order online:  http://shop.cafedumonde.com/coffee.html

Red

Or just go to World Market... they have it there and it's only about a dollar more than getting it in NOLA...

For an everyday "store-bought" coffee, Community Dark Roast is my favorite.

I use an electric percolator....
I remember those things.  The parents had one until recently.  They made coffee that could put (or take off) the hair on your chest.

My mom always swore by her percolator because it laster forever and the rod running up the center heated the entire pot and kept the coffee very hot.

I read something online that rated 8 o'clock as the top whole bean coffee.  It beat out a lot of expensive brands and is really cheap here. I've been buying the 100% columbian and like it a lot better than the $14 a pound stuff I was buying. Use the french press.

Can't believe people have a hard time finding Cafe du Monde. That stuff is in every store in Kansas City. They even sell the beignet mix at most large grocery stores.
