 I've finally decided to register after a few months of perusing the forums and reading the stories of everyone here.  Now it's my turn to share my own.  It's very short, typical, and unremarkable so I'll spare you all the long agonizing details:  I started receding when I was 16 (I'm 20 now) and at the time I had very long hair and as the months went on I slowly came to the realization that the thinness I perceived in my crown area wasn't my imagination.  So you can imagine how emotionally traumatic it was for a 16 year old neophyte to come to grips with the knowledge that that hair wasn't gonna come back.

So, I put it off for a few years and the recession kept getting worse and worse to the point where I couldn't comb my hair back without someone noticing the missing strands... and I had low self esteem, I thought I was ugly, worthless, and unattractive, I was depressed, self conscious, paranoid that everyone would discover my not so great little secret, and it was a miserable time.  Then out of curiosity I Googled "shaved heads" and stumbled across this site and began reading the forums and it convinced me to shave it off.  And with no hair came confidence and this weird feeling of being both bold and invincible.  And now I've joined.  So hello to you all.

You've made a great and wise choice, and at a young age.  Don't waste your 20's away worrying about losing your hair.  You've won that battle, now on to the next!
