Under The Knife!
« on: September 30, 2009, 10:59:23 AM »
Hello my fellow chromedomes,

After reading several posts on the subject of "Barber Shop Head Shaves" I still felt the need to try out this experiance for myself. So yesterday I found a Barber close to where I work that offered that service, and I could not waite to finnish work so I could rush right over to get my head shaved. (Especially since I got lazy and let it grow for a whole month)

So here's how it went: I arrived at the Barber Shop at 5:30PM, there were several people ahead of me, so I patiently waited for my turn to go "Under The Knife!" Finnaly after about 20 minutes it was my turn. First he took the clippers with NO guard to clip it down, then he took the hot lather and spread it all over my dome, after wich he wraped my head in a hot steamy towel. That stayed on my head for about 5 minutes, he then carefully removed the towel then, applied a little more hot lather. He then went to the back for just a moment and returned with a "DISPOSABLE RAZZOR!!" :Xo! I thought to myself "WHAT THE HE**" I resisted the urge to scream at him in dismay, and thought lets just see what he is going to do, after all he did have his straight razzor sitting on the counter!

He started shaving my head with the "CHEAP" disposable razzor paying carefull attention around my ears, after he completed shaving my head with the disposable razzor, he startes to remove the apron from arround my neck, I was thinking to myself WHAT is that it!!! But then he reached for a fresh clean towel and wraped it around my neck and place the apron back around me, I thought "YES FINALLY!!" He once again put the hot lather all over my head followed by another hot towel, after another 5 minute wait he removed the hot towel and fliped open his straight razzor. He was very carefull and took his time going over every inch of my dome, I kindly asked him to repeat the process but this time go against the grain, I told him I wanted it to be baby bottom smooooooth!! He said no problem sir. After the deed was done I paid the man for his services and gave him a nice tip, then I walked out the door jumped in my car and headed home.

On the way home I realized that I didn't slide my hand over my frshly shaved dome, so I decided to do it on the way home,,,, and what I felt almost made me cry!! It was velcro city all over!!! There were only a couple small smooth patches, I could not believe it!!! I was so ticked!

Lets just say that from now on nobody touches my dome with a razzor but me and no other razzor but my trusty S4 will touch my scalp, so needless to say although I really enjoyed the experiance of the "Barber Shop Head Shave" You can't beat doing it yourself and for me you can't beat the HeadBlade to do the deed!

Karmic payback for NOT being Sly for a whole month.  :*))

I'm still convinced that someone out there can give a proper headshave, even though I've had an unsatisfactory experience myself.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
I want to try it sometime in the near future but I will only do it with a barber that I can
really trust because oh boy straight razor on my dome  >:(  I would be terrified

The majority of stories I have heard about barbers and strait razor haircuts has been negative. Similar to your story Tom.

Your barber obviously didn't have a clue.  First clippers then a disposable razor???  An experienced barber could take off a months growth with a straight edge razor alone just using a spritzer and blade with no problem and the whole process would only take a few minutes.  I went to a barber with a full head of hair many years ago and he didn't want to shave me bald.
