Need help
« on: September 20, 2009, 06:08:17 PM »
Well, I'm 22, and already balding pretty bad. I got the whole receding hairline thing where it goes behind a little patch on the front of my head. I want to shave it, but I'm not sure if it'll still look like I have a little patch in the front of my head. Plus I'd like your guys' opinions if I'd look good bald/buzzed... here are pics . Thank you.

It's not really possible to tell what your hairline is like due to the way that your hair is combed.  If it's very receded, it will be very visible if you buzz your hair.  It will probably look OK, but if the receded hairline bothers you, you'll have to shave your head completely clean.  There will still very likely be some shadow showing, but it will be a lot more subtle.   I couldn't stand the receded hairline look on myself, so shaving was the only option.

I think you'd look great shaved.  If you think you're ready to do it, give it a try.  It will only take a few days to get to a buzzcut length from completely shaved anyway.

The best thing about shaving your head is if you don't like it , it will grow back.

Experiment. Take it down to almost nothing then look in the mirror. I did this then smiled and finished the act.

Afterward I had this great grin break out on my face. As soon as I was SLY I knew I made the right decision.

Dude, just do it!  I wish I would have shaved my head at 22.

You don't tell us whether you have balding in the crown in back.  If so, then you're moving on to male pattern baldness.  Look up the Norwood/Hamilton charts, and if you're a three or higher, you are going to be bald.  How you're going to be bald is your choice, not whether.  If your current hairline is very symmetrical, then you can do a close buzz, #3 or lower until it progresses.  It really depends on what you're comfortable with.
Another alternative has been suggested by RazorX, shave and see if you like the look now, if not it will grow out to a point you're comfortable with.
The main thing is not to get too involved w/ this--it happens to more than 50% of men at some time in their lives.  Personally, at your age, I would kick it, shave it off, and see if it fit your life style now.  Last evening we went to a party, the 20th anniversary of a major party location in the City of New Orleans, and although I've found a lot of fellow sly guys at the gym, airports, generally everywhere, I was amazed last night.  There were more shaved heads than combovers, guys and their ladies everywhere.  My wife doesn't like it, and I think that's what kind of put her off the party--it really was amazing.
So don't think you're moving into a strange situation, more and more guys from every walk of life, at all ages are getting rid of the balding situation and just going bald, hiding mpb in plain sight.
It is also very much a freedom thing, you just don't have to worry about it anymore.
Looking to see you on the Sly Side Soon.

There is no correct headshape or facial structure.  It's all about being confident.  You'll look fine.  Like Tyler said earlier, I wish I had shaved my head at 22.  You're at that age where nothing you do is really going to make you look bad, so just go with it.  If you need some more inspiration check out the Before & After Gallery:

Most importantly, don't agonize over it.  You owe it to yourself to give it a try.  The worst thing that can happen is that you'll decide it isn't for you.

Thats ...a problem.
Ask the Sly Gurus if it is ok to use a cream for that :)

Jergens makes a self tanning lotion, several actually, that many here have used (including myself) to speed up the tanning process.  They work great and didn't cause any irritaion.  Do it man!  Just shave it off!
