I did it again

. For the 2nd time this week I cut a nice chunk of skin off the back of my scalp as I was shaving, this time on the top back side of my crown, the earlier one was on the back of the neck. Now might I remind all of my sly brothers the only other time I have ever cut myself was last year. Now my weapon of choice is a Headblade with trips, Maybe I was to comfortable going througth the motions, maybe I was tired or going a little too fast. My only other conclusion is I started using an exfoliator adamantly last week which might not be a good idea for me.....I tossed the exfoliator out, Im just using a good cream a good blade and hot water !!!! and giving it a couple days to heal up.
Just a reminder SB's, slow is fast and it keep it simple!

when your shaving the back of your head are you looking down? I have found that is one good trick. Also if the triple blades are not working out for you, pick up a pack of gillette atras they are available at walmart. Or use the black adapter and get some gillette sensor excell blades.

With all due respects to the brothers who use HB, try Fusion or MachIII. I can only speak for myself, but I'm going on 2 years w/ not a "slice" a few nips at a zit or two, but that's it and not any more than 5 of those. It's not a great design like HB, but damn, I can keep it baby butt without any danger of slices too. I can live w/ that. Note: I do love my HeadSlick and brush, but the HB, it's in the drawer and will remain there.

I agree with SaintC. While I like the HB, I need to use the Fusion over the ears anyway, so I have been sticking with that at home. And I have a Mach3 at the office in case I have to work late or found a spot I missed later on in the day. And the familiarity with a standard razor makes me feel like I have better control to avoid nicks.

Thanks for all the advice and dually noted per the fusion/mach 3 change. I cant explain the sudden pandemic of nicking and bleeding, the only conclusion is that Im using to much exfoliator, and all of the sudden Headslick has been causing breakouts on my face as well.
Ive been using the headblade for the last 2 years, sometimes switching back to the fusion or M3 for a week or two here or there but I go back to the HB just because its easier to use and more economical for me, and Im not to keen on gillette and there ridiculous price for blades. The Atras do not like me, the HB doubles arent to bad and I have yet to dive into the Sensors, I'll be sure to purchase a black adapter. Parskies do you like the standard excels or the trips? Do any HBler's notice a difference between a sport and a regular ( which I currently own, I got tired of that stupid wheel )
Like I said before I'm going back to being a minimalist because thats how I roll

( usually ) going to the bodyshoppe tommorow picking up some there Maca shave cream, which is awesome !!!! giving the noggin a week to heal while in the meantime using aloe and neosporin and sticking with the HB
BTW Tom, your absolutely right the Headblade is unforgiving!!!

I love the Hb but I have cut myself pretty badly a few times in the past. I noticed that at least one a several things came into play at the times I cut myself with the HB.
1) Trying to get some extra shaves out of a blade. When it begins to feel dull, trash it.
2) Shaving too fast..... this seemed to be the big one for me. I slowwed way down while shaving and haven't cut myself since. The extra minute it takes is worth the gouge free scapl.
About the exlfoliator...... I use mine AFTER I shave for several reasons. First.... I don't like trying to put it to use on my stubbly head. Second.... when I use it AFTER shaving the dome is oh so smooth. Also..... i only use it about once or twice a week.

I would use the sensor double excel double blades. The triple blades do get closer, but theres a slight more risk of cutting yourself, or some irritation. Like mike said try using the exfoliator after you shave, not only does it feel better but after you rinse it off you will be able to find missed spots more quickly.

With the HB, I have not found that I am cutting myself. I think it is all about how fast you go and pressure. I often hear where guys need to use a reg razor to get around the ears. I wish there was an easy way to explain how I get around my ears. I can manuver it in such a way that I get close and right around the ear in one pass. Its all about placing your hand ( the portion of your palm that makes the bottom of your thumb) on your jaw line and you pivot, just ride it around. Actually it is easier done that it is to explain it.

Along with some of the others, I find that a dulling blade (I can barely get 5 shaves out of 1 blade) and speed are what causes the slices on my noggin. I have been using the Sensor Excell (double) on my HB. I actually have both, the sport and the ghost. I like them both. The ghost (clear classic model) is so much easier to maneuver around the ears. I, like Timmay, can use the HB alone around my ears and don't have to use a handle razor there.
Even though I find that I am very proficiant in using the HeadBlade, sometimes I notice my selft going WAY TO FAST! I have to tell myself to slow down constantly, but it's definately worth the extra minute.
Also, I only use the HeadShed every few days. But I'll have to give it a try after I shave next time!

Saint, I'm gonna take your advice and run the fusion and put the HB away for awhile, all of a sudden there's a little area of the back of my head that I keep nicking, I've been applying no pressure as well. I'm gonna take Parksie's advice and most likely going to buy some sensors and run those in the near future.

On the money side--thing of the barber you're not paying. I am ADDICTED to Headslick and disturbed and it's continuing disappearance from the general market place.
