Would having a scar affect being sly?
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:28:35 AM »
I buzzed my head with a 3, then a 2, and now..a 1.

I really like the 1..but I forgot all about the scar i have on the back of my head.
From my hair transplant years ago, the donor area left a linear scar and it looks really lame with a 1 buzzcut, i think with the 2 it wasn't as bad at all.

My question is, would taking a razor to my head show a brutal scar?
It might be a stupid question..but I don't have any scars at all.

it's either a #2 Buzz from now on, or keeping it sly..I just want the least brutal of course.

I have two scars, from skin cancer removals--doesn't affect me at all.  I prefer showing the scars to having a combover or a buzz that shows I'm a balding guy.  It's just a matter of personal preference.  Try Sly for 30 days, what you have left will grow back.  You've got an itch scratch it.

I'm really considering the sly, but I also wonder if a no guard buzz would minimalize the presence of the scar

If it's an old scar then tanning up should reduce its visibility.   Go for it.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't let a scar keep me from being totally sly!!

So are you guys saying that a scar would still be quite obvious as both being bald and as well as buzzed?

Yep, that's what I am saying. Hey, look at it this way...the only time people will see it is when your back is turned to them anyway. You'll never have to see anyone's reaction!! BTW check this out as I just posted something on this subject http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=10597.0

i have 2 scars from mole removals, and the second one happened a week ago. im still sporting the bandage and stitches. So no, scars dont have much say into whether or not I shave. Like saint said, better scars than combovers!

Ill go ahead and say what everyone is thinking...

I'm confused, you said you forgot about a scar on the back of your head, but then you said that you don't have any scars at all.

Whether or not the scar is going to matter depends entirely on you.  I would not let a scar stop me from shaving unless there was a medical reason for it (maybe it must be protected from UV light).

If you have a scar resulting from a hair transplant and are terrified about people learning that secret, then shaving your head will make it obvious to all.  I don't think even the most advanced scar elimination techniques could hide it.

If you are simply afraid of you or others finding the scar ugly, then your fears might be overblown.  Chances are the scar is most likely not very visible to you due to the design of the human head, and like GaryT said a scar on the back of your head is only going to be seen by others anyway.  Most people are tolerant of the fact that crap happens in life, we get injured and are then stuck with a scar for the rest of our lives.  So others will notice your scar but probably not think much of it.  I bet people are more concerned about their own scars than yours.
You don't know me, but I know you.

I have two scars in front from old hair tranplant removals so that I can shave my head. Better to have a few scars than to deal with the crap I went thru for 20 years.

And to others on here: if u have a mole or cyst on your head that looks fishy, see your dermatologist if u can.

I have a bright red birthmark on the back of my head about the size of a quarter.  This is my 21st day of shaving.  It still bothers me a little bit knowing it's there, but as the days go on, it bothers me less every day.  So I'm hoping that before long, I won't even think about it and forget that it's even there.  I say shave it and give it the 30 day test.

I have at least three scars on my head from where I kept busting it open as a kid.

Check the threads in the Tatoos section. There are a couple companies doing very small tatoos that mimic the look of shaved down stuble. One has a pic of a guy who had transplant scars and now shaves but the scar is filled in with the tatoos ink identical to stubble. The best of the two is in Florida who do it just for that purpose. Thinking about it myself for the same reason.
