Although it's been about a month since I found this board, I have only lurked several times getting the feel of the place.

I'm an academic, with no current plans to retire.  Pleasant workplace and the money is good.  What's not to like?  Well, certain students, alas.

How bald am I?  Well, many years ago (I'm about 65), when I was getting haircuts, I asked the barber, "Do you think I'll get bald?"  And he said, "No, it doesn't look like that will happen."  That was when I was in my thirties.  Well, I can't really say I'm very bald--modest temporal recession, with that central peninsula, still coming sparsely out m.o.l. to my original hairline (trace of my youthful cowlick still to be seen).  No loss at the crown.  One of my women friends says, "You have great hair."  Well, I like the bald look better, so, on and off since I've been forty, I'm BBC.  It turned gray, now nearly white, early. and the hair is really fine, so I have essentially no shadow.

I'd say, over the past ten years, I shaved the head about 90% of the time, the other 10% is 5% buzzing and 5% growing it to comb-able length.  And there was a very brief phase with a mohawk(!).  So, I guess I can live in two worlds, but you here can see where, apparently, my heart lies.

Welcome to "Da Joint".  Sly is nice O0, and if it's just your prefered alternative--that works here O:O.  Someone said, "When you can see the skin, that' in!"  Post up, and contribute.  As you probably know from lurking there are other academics, and just about every other calling.  We've been brought together by our bald preference whether enforced by mpb or not.
