Wahl Balding clippers
« on: March 07, 2009, 05:32:12 AM »
Hi Guys

I bought a balding clippers and seek some good advice on how to cut down on nicks/cuts with it (plenty of little cuts this morning after first use). Should I use something prior to the dry shave (baby oil is a No No) and moisturise afterwards. Would I be better getting someone else to do it as the back of my head is hard to get at, plus it's lumpy after all the bangs/bruises.

Thanks

I've never heard of cuts and bangs/bruises from a clipper, how hard are you pressing down on your dome?!      :/O

Maybe it's the contours of my head, but I need to get very close to get a smooth shave. The end result is cuts, even though minor ones at the back of my head. Should I put on a pre-shave application of something?

Thanks guys!

The next time you shave try not pushing at all.  I dont think that you are going to get a smooth shave with the clippers it might take you close to the skin, but thats about all.  The harder you push its going to cut you no matter what razor that you are using.

It is possible to cut yourself with those, but the problem is you're pushing down way too hard.  You shouldn't be pushing at all.  The balding clippers are designed to cut it to a fine almost invisible stubble... not to get it smooth or even close to smooth.

I mistakenly assumed the clippers would get me the smooth look without the irritation associated with the razor.  Anyhow, I understand now. So no more pressing down on the clippers causing nicks.

Thanks guys

Dude for those who have not used these, they aint no joke. These things will pinch the crap out of you and draw blood no problem.

My advice for these is to take your time and find that correct angle and like everyone else said no pressure.  O0

hi Irish deer hunter. I have had these clippers for years and have not had any problems. Just a thought, check that the blade allignment is correct ( ie the top blade does not protude over the bottom blade). I have nicked my ear but that was being careless. They do a great job but will still leave you with Velcro. Hope this helps.

The trick with clippers is to keep the back of the clipper head flat against your head.  That way you won't cut yourself.  You just have to go over the area a lot.

If you want to get closer than clippers you'll need to get an electric razor.  I have just started using my Norelco again (head, not face) and it does a great job.  I only do it every third day to prevent irritation.

I'm sure the alignment was off. Anyhow, I am back to shaving with my Mach 3 which is the way I like it.

I was going to buy a set of these a few days ago, and they guy at the store told me that if you press to hard you will easily cut yourself.   there is zero overlap on the blades and they are sharp.  this is what made me stick with my headblade.
