Now to throw in my intro =)
« on: May 31, 2009, 01:49:16 PM »
Hello everyone!

I'm Daniel and have been lurking around this site for a few weeks now, and I have finally decided to become a member after seeing how awesome everybody here is. I'm 19 years old now and just went Sly for the first time. I actually started to see a receeding hairline when I was about 15-16 and was able to hide it with my long hair without anybody noticing. Then the worst of it happened, a bald spot began to appear on my crown.

I chose to wear a hat for a few years once the balding began to increase, but the hat soon became too much of a nuisance and two weeks ago I finally decided to just shave it all off, and I was VERY happy with the results when I was alone. But when I was in public with friends and family I became quite the laughing stock. I do think that as people get used to the idea of me not having hair the ridicule will subside, but for now I only have this site to look to for support. =D

I really look forward to meeting everyone here. Thanks =)

Hey Daniel,  you'll get a lot of support on the site.

You're looking good sly and smooth.  I dealt with the receding front hairline young as well.. Probably tried for too long to keep it looking like I had plenty of hair.  Finally was convinced to buzz my head down to a 1 1/2, kept that up for years, and the past few years buzzed it at a 1.  I got a lot of comments when I started buzzing my head, but as I went Sly it's been mixed from a few people.  Most were used to me without much hair when the buzz was new which was every 2 weeks, so, wasn't too much of a shock for most.

Just keep with the 30 day rule, keep it shaved for 30 days before making any decision about staying shaved.

When the balding/rising forehead in the front is trying to meet the bald spot in the back, just shave it sly and smooth.

Daniel, welcome to the site.  So glad you have decided to join us.  Ridicule from friends and family will soon subside and you will begin to enjoy the freedom of worry and the fact of loosing hair.  Remember, hair is only an accessory and not the stock that makes you who you are.  I too went through the silly jokes, but I ignored the silliness and now everyone can't remember me with hair.  I grew it back and to my surprise, some people didn't recognize me.  Those that did, asked me to shave it off again.  So there must be something in the Sly look.  Hang in there buddy and all will be good.

Hey  Daniel,

Great to have you aboard! I'm glad you took the step and that you ended up here. As for the ridicule....I find that so interesting because I got next to no negativity when I did mine. I think that the only difference was that I had been cutting my hair to 2 for a couple of years and then at 1. So people were pretty used to seeing me with very short hair to begin with.

Have fun.....

You wear it well - so no worries about carrying the look. Hang in there, everyone will get used to it and it will become a part of who you are.
