Young and receding, should I shave it off?
« on: March 21, 2009, 02:51:59 PM »
Hey, I just registered here and I'm wondering if I should just shave my head completely.  I'm 21 but my hair is receding quite badly but up until today I've just been sort of covering it up by growing my hair out.

This was me about 6 months ago and my hairline was just as bad as it is now but I tried my best to hide it  ::)

My hair last week, but still cut in a way to hide my hairline!

But this morning I decided that I had enough of hiding my receding hair and thought I should just be myself, so I used a 7mm guard and cut it really short but I'm not convinced it was such a good idea, should I shave it completly and maybe that will look better? I feel that since I'm only 21 I might not be able to pull off a clean shaven head? What do you guys think?

SLY is about attitude and how you wear it.  If you get the bug to want to try shaving, you definitely should.  I will always grow back to what you had before if you don't like it.  If you're curious, I say just give it a shot. And make sure that you keep it that way long enough to know if you really like it.  We have a standard rule here that you should keep it for 30 days to really know if you like it or not.

Best of luck,
Rick

There's no point in doing things in half-measures, so go for it.  You'll look much tidier without the thinning hairline showing.

Go for it m8. You'll never know how you feel until you do it. Welcome to the site. Post up a pic when you do the deed. And keep to the 30 day rule  O0

Hi lewis, welcome to slybaldguys.com!!!

Shave it off completely and then keep it that way for 30 days.   That gives you enough time to look at yourself in
the mirror and make a genuine decision as to whether you like it or not.
Once you shave, I think you will be relieved and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
Post the pics after you shave and good luck on your journey.  Please note that your world does not end the day you shave your head.  On the contrary, that's the day you will start enjoying life again as it will help you forget that hairloss is a problem.
Good luck on your journey, which will hopefully be a successful one.  Stick around for more fun.  O0

Welcome, Lewis.  This forum is loaded with encouragement and good advice.  Here's my two-cent's worth:

1st pic:  moppy/sloppy teen look
2nd pic:  cleaned up but uninteresting
3rd pic:  edgy look in which your facial shape and features are featured -- to the good -- a look that I think others will take seriously -- like you mean business.

I think the short buzz suits you.  You're receding and you're not hiding it.  But I bet you'd really dig going all the way.  What the heck, you might as well give it a go.  I think you'd like it.

Best wishes,
Sly addict since July 22, 2007.

Hi Lewis: yeah, the third pic is halfway there and looks cool.  Try shaving it, see how you feel.  It's a trendy look, and will certainly give you the 'edge', so give it a go O0

I really think you should at least clip it with no guard to give you the benefit you are looking for. It's an edgier look and it makes the receding hairline less obvious. Don't worry about being a young person with a shaved head, I'm 23, and there's lots of young people that do it.

Hey Lewis,

I join the other bros in suggesting you finish the deed and shave the noggin.  In the photo with long hair you look fine, but that look will be harder to maintain as your hairline recedes as it will.  With the buzz you look tougher (but not a criminal!).  I think you'll like the feel and look of a shaven head, so go far it and keep it at least 30 days.
