Sensitive Spots That Bleed Like There's No Tomorrow
« on: April 03, 2008, 02:02:34 PM »
Hi Everyone!!

Having tried pretty much every electric (my preference) out there over the past 6 months or so (Target loves ME! -lol), it was on here that I finally discovered the best way to go was to get it wet, and ended up going with the Panasonic ES8109S Wet/Dry in the shower --BEST shave ever!

The problem is, though, although I'm now getting this amazingly close shave, I'm dealing with these random "spots", particularly at the top of my head, that bleed like there's tomorrow.

Sometimes it'll be just a quick bleed, while other times I'll have one that just won't stop (making hard just to get dressed!) --either way, though, I'm still left with these unsightly red spots, that will, of course, bleed again when I go over them the next day.

I know these are not razor bumps and I never had this problem when I dry-shaved.

Please don't laugh at me, but I'm using nothing but the shower water for the shave --should I be using something else? I'm hesistant to only because of my (obvious) sensitivity.

Any input on this very unsightly problem is very much appreciated!

Thanks.

Dude don't worry about it.  We might mess with you a bit but it's all in fun bro.

First off I have to say that I would definitely give a regular razor like a Mach 3, Fusion, HeadBlade, etc...You just aren't getting the full benefits of being totally sly with an electric.  Secondly, I would say definitely get yourself a shave product to help slick up your shave.  I have heard of some saying they only use water but they are few and far in between.  Check out the "Product Reviews" section and see what catches your eye.  Some of my personal suggestions would be HeadSlick from HeadBlade, or some kind of shaving oil.  The one I was using for a while was by King of Shaves and it was called Nexium and came in a little blue container.  Another real good one that's becoming very popular around here is a oil called Shave Secret.  It's available at Wal-Mart or online at their web site.  But any kind of gel/cream/oil will help other than just water.  Even if it's a generic one.  As far as the cuts go I would take a break from shaving for about 2 or 3 days to let those babies heal good.  Get some clear 100% aloe vera gel and apply to your head a few times a day while taking a break from shaving.  That stuff will work wonders for your cuts.  I use Fruit of the Earth brand.  Hope some of this helps bro.  Good luck.

Welcome, K_Floss.  I'd try shaving with some type of gel or oil.  I'm currently using Shave Secret and I think it would work good for your situation.

Best of luck.

I would do the same bro...use some kind of lotion for shaving.  If you get a cut...and God knows we all get them and they dont stop.  Any kind of head cut or injury tends to bleed more than anything else.  So with that...always keep a stypic pen available.  You can buy them at Walmart or any drug store, they cost very little.  All you do when you get a cut is to wet the tip of the pen for a few seconds( kinda rub the tip around on the palm of your hand until you see that the water in your palm starts to turn a milky white) dry off the cut ,get as much blood off as you can, hold your breath and dab the pen on the cut several times.  It will burn a tad bit but it will stop the bleeding.  Hope our suggestions help you somewhat....but I would go back to razor shaving instead of electric shave.  I have never electric shave so it wouldnt be fair for me to judge one is better than the other..  Good Luck...glad youre here..

Timmmayy!

If you're shopping at Target, I'd see if they have King of Shaves cream or gel.  They have it in the Target by my house.  I'd then use that with your shave.  Also, the electric shouldn't cut you unless there's something weird going on.  You can use a styptic pen to stop the bleeding quicker.

Thanks for the great input, guys.

Looks like we can all agree I definitely need something to shave with.

I'm not too thrilled about putting an oil on my head (or my face, for that matter), mainly because my skin already has an oily tendency --giving my head an unwelcome shine (in fact, if anything, I'm looking for a way to matte it down) --but I definitely think a King of Shaves gel might be the way to go.

Problem is, though, I just had a gander at their website, and BOY do they have a LOT of gels!!

Any ideas which one I should get?

I used the more green looking one that is labeled "sensitive" I believe.  It has a natural spearmint oil in it which gives you the cooling sensation instead of menthol which can dry you out sometimes.  Good stuff.  It actually didn't work much differently than the oil.  Given the oil is a little slicker because, well, it's oil.  But I used the gel from KoS the same way as the oil.  I would put about a dime sized amount in my hand rub it in good all over and then start shaving.  If I felt it was drying up I would get some water in my hand and rub around the spot I wanted to shave.  It does good on lathering and slicking back up.  Don't run your whole head under the water like you would do with the oil or you'll just get a eye and mouth full of the gel.  Good luck bro.  Let me know if you can't find it and I'll try to locate my old tube of gel and give you the exact name.  Another product you could try if you want to buy locally instead of having to order online would be a shave gel from Nivea for Men.  They have a few also but the one I used for about a year was called Nivea For Men Sensitive.  It comes in a long white container.  It's pretty decent stuff.  It has a nice clean smell and the best thing about it is it contains chamomile to help calm irritations.  It works pretty good with a good razor.

Also...make sure the foil on your electric razor is not damaged!  If it is...replace it...this would definitely cause nicks and cuts.  If the foil is not damaged, try this...while in a hot shower wash your head as you normally would.  Then, apply about ten drops of baby oil to your hands, rub them together, and then massage the oil into your scalp.  Apply a drop to your finger and rub it on the foil...shave the dome.  Let me know if this works for you.

Just wanted to report back to you guys on my progress.

I ended up deciding on the KoS Alpha Shaving Gel ASC Anti-Bacterial/Anti-Spot Control. The only one they had at Target was just the regular Alpha --and after practically searching the world over, including the internet (WAY too much since the shipping pretty much doubled the actual price!), I ended up finding it at my local Albertson's supermarket of all places!

Anyway, turns out it was all for naught because, I don't know about you guys, but this stuff left a definite noticeable residue on both my face AND scalp --even AFTER I washed them. Not good.

So I decided to try the Neutrogena Shave Cream.

So far, it's worked pretty well, although I am finding that there are some places, on what are usually easy parts of my head, that I have to go over a few times for some reason. This makes no sense to me.

Anyway, though, I did find out that the Neutrogena Shave Cream (not their gel) has salicylic acid in it which is exactly what I'm looking for.

The bleeding spots have, so far, minimized (I don't care so much about the actual bleeding, it's the red spot that's left afterward).

Thanks again for all the great advice!!
