Week Six

Finally long enough for it and the goat to merit a trim this afternoon to neaten and homogenize them a little more. Since it was slow, the barber threw in a scalp, neck and shoulder massage.

That earned a very nice tip.

Nice trim cave.  And I like the longer mustache as well.

I really have to wonder if there are people who will shave because some self-proclaimed expert has decided that beards are no longer "in".

Yes, absolutely yes there are guys who will shave if they are told it is no longer cool, in fact I think a lot of guys grew them only because they are cool.  I'd even bet that most millennial hipsters only have beards because they became cool.

Those guys will shave. Guaranteed.  Other guys, like me, saw the abundance of beards and decided to give it a shot because it got the wheels spinning.  In my case I had tried beards in the past and it always sucked so I gave up, but I kept seeing so many beards it convinced me to try one more time.   I upgraded my goatee to a beard and also figured out why my previous beards sucked so much: over trimming and aggressive edging.

Guys like me that joined the beard wave will stick with it because the trend simply forced us to get the gears of curiosity spinning in our heads.  Hipsters joined the wave to be cool and will simply shave and jump on the next trend that they are told to follow.

From what I'm seeing in my day-to-day life and in the media, the popularity of beards has not yet begun to wane.
The way I see it, the way the media mindlessly parrots whatever nonsensical matriarchal tantrum someone throws out there, I'm sure they have hated this entire beard thing because it is so openly and unapologetically male. I'm sure they thought they had it contained with stubble beards, but somehow (and I can't figure out how) this purely male thing got out of their hand and I'm sure they've been trying to find a way to re-feminize men back into metrosexuals.

Besides, I'm in my 40s now and one of the nice things about being a grown up is that your give-a-damn works less and less everyday.  I've lost most of my concern for following the desires of what my personal preferences ought to be. I still refuse to wear skinny jeans and have decided to stick with nice looking sunglasses instead of Ray Bans that neither look good or effectively block sunlight.

Speaking of grey whiskers, have I ever mentioned how much I hate natural lighting?   ;)

It is nice how yours is mixing well and just works better in general with red than dark brown.  Mine is not graying that nicely; it's mainly gray at the top of the sideburns and the chin and the kinkiest hairs are the gray ones so they stand out against the darker ones, so the whole thing is starting to bug me.  I've used Just for Men in the past but it lasts for about 4 days.  I've seriously been considering getting real hair dye and doing it for real but it's just such messy work.

You don't know me, but I know you.

I've always thought just the opposite - that brown hair greys more nicely than red.   Yours will be fine - just give it a little more time.  The grey hairs have to accumulate before they start mixing in nicely with the rest of the beard.  Hang in there and be patient.

Rusty,I am in serious beard envy too!  I could only hope that my curly Brillo Pad of a beard could get that long.  But I would love to have and KEEP, as my permanent look, my sly noggin and a beard that goes past my chest!  Kudos to you!

The longer beard suits you.  It's a very different look for you.
