@ Mark:  I cannot explain why you are now having difficulty on your Merkur 34C.  I noticed you haven't been using your DE razors lately.  Don't give up and keep trying.

@ SirHarry:  Harry... good to see ya back doing the DE shaves.  How is your DE journey going?

I've only used one TOBS but I still remember it as far and away the best shaving product I've used.   I think it was lime ?  Wonderful cushion and scent,  great glide,  just an effortless shave.   Can't wait to get my hands on some more!

Today's SOTD is brought to you by the letter P for Proraso. I decided to change up my face shave routine a little this morning and not use my usual C. O. Bigelow. It was partly an experiment. I've been having some great shaves lately and I wanted to see if it was due to the soap I was using or an improvement in my technique. Well.....I got a great BBS shave with the Proraso so I guess my technique is getting better. I haven't use the Proraso much lately because my supply of both the soap and pre/post shave cream are very low.

Head (in the shower)
HeadBlade with Wilkinson Sword blade
HeadSlick applied with brush
Two passes with a HeadShed exfoliation in between passes
Witch Hazel post shave

Face (at the sink)
Merkur Futur with a Wilkinson Sword blade (at setting #3.5)
Proraso soap
Three passes
Proraso pre/post shave cream as an aftershave

@Bluebriz:  Agree... the TOBS is a great performer.

@Doug: Love your SOTD pic.  How do you compare the Proraso vs the C.O. Bigelow?  I know it's basically the same product but I wanted to know your review of both products.

Warhawk....Still experimenting with soap/blade combinations...but this last one turned out pretty good (Derby/Headslick) Next DE shave will probably be on Monday, as I am working extra this week due to shift coverages.

They are similar but different :D They are both great soaps and use them regularly. Of the two though, I prefer the C. O. Bigelow (COB). I'm able to get fuller lather with less effort with the COB. Also, the COB lather doesn't dissipate in the bowl between shaves. I always have to give the Proraso soap a swirl or two to reinvigorate it after it has sat while I make a pass with the razor on my face.

The COB soap makes more lather. I've done a two pass head shave in the shower and still had enough left for my usual 3-passes on my face at the sink. And that was all from about a nickle-sized dollop of COB.

Then there's the smell of the COB. Initially I was turned off by it. However it has grown on me. It has was I would describe as a medicinal/barber shop smell. I can just imagine this smell if I were to get a shave from an old school barber. The Proraso has a eucalyptus smell which isn't bad either.

As, always, YMMV, but that's my $.02 on the two soaps.

My routine has been the same for the past few days.  I do my head once over with a Fusion and Edwin Jagger Sandalwood shaving soap in the shower, then step out to the sink and do my beard and head with my DE as follows:

Art of Shaving pre-shave oil (running out of this!)
Edwin Jagger Sandalwood shaving soap lathered up with an Omega brush
Merkur DE with a Merkur blade
Warm and cold rinse
Ice cube rub
Nivea Sensitive aftershave balm

The shave is very close and smooth - truly BBS - and the smoothness lasts for a long time.  The Merkur blades give a good shave, but I've nicked myself more with them than with the Astra and Derby baldes.

For a change i've been shaving in the morning instead of the evening these last few days....

Anyway, this morning I used the Cobra Classic with a Dorco blade, Mike's Peppermint and Rosemary shave soap, Omega boar brush.  Wonderful post shower shave at the sink.

For dessert, it was cold witch hazel from the fridge, followed by Boots (a UK chemist/drug store) Freshwood aftershave balm.  I can't recommend the balm highly enough gents, well worth a try for you UK members!  It's cheap and works fantastically well (8 hours after i shaved I can still feel the moisture on/in my face!)

I just finished face shaving for the first time with a Feather. There reputation is well deserved. They are the sharpest! I took it very slow and used a very lite touch and got a BBS shave....and so fast too, as quick as a duck on a June bug. I had a skid mark or two on the neck, but I did go three ways to get it smooth. 'Nito, likes'um!

Tried out an SE razor on my Kopf this morning, but it'll take some getting used to so finished with the WS disposable.  Face was the Feather Artist Club SS straight.
Williams shaving cream, cheapo horse brush on head in shower, Vie long on face.

Witch hazel, pinaud clubman and 444 balm for dessert.

Face (sink):   Vintage 1960 Gillette Fatboy (dialed @ #7)

Dome (shower):  Merkur 37C Slant Razor

Blade:  Feather

Soap:  Mike's Natural Soap (Lemongrass)

Brush:  Semogue 620

I had a very relaxing safety razor shave that was BBS on face & dome.  Dessert (as Bluebriz aka Brian would say) was a cold ice cube rub and splash of refrigerated Osage Rub.  Ahhhhhhh life is good!!!

I was trying to get a fourth shave out of a Feather yesterday but it wouldn't make it. I felt a lot of pull on the back of the head. During a pit stop I replaced it with a new Derby and finished with a BBS shave that felt soooo good. Life is great!
