Personal Comparison & first day at University
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:43:37 AM »
OK, so I just wanted to give a bit of feedback of my last couple of days...

Wel, about 4days ago I went through some of my photos on my girlfriend's laptop, and I came across some photos of me about 5 months before I started shaving my head!!    :px    :/O    :-[    :-X :'(   :'(   :'(   :'(   MAN! Did I look terrible!!  Seriously,  I'll post some of the pics when I get hold of her laptop again!!  But trust me, slyness is a quantam leap of appreance for me!  Also, she took some before and after pics of when I just shaved...

What actually bothered me most was the fact that when I just shaved it, my g-friend started to cry!!  (its now actually funny).  She said I look too much different ect.  That really upset me.  But I stuck to the program, and dont regret it now for a moment!!  What bothered me the other day when I look through ou photos, was that she was prepared to let me look like freaken BOZO the clown! Or like Golm (spelling?  from Lord of the rings)!!  I could not believe she allowed me to look like that!!  I confronted her on this, and alls well now.

Also, I am changing alot of stuff in my life.  I'm 25 and enrolled into university and my first day was today!!  Now, a year ago (I did not shave then) I would not have dared walking on campus without a hat!   But today, well...   O:O  All the younger blokes looked the same!!  Now, I don’t really try to stand out, but...  I did, and it felt good.   I was confident.  Felt good about myself.  The people I spoke to enjoyed me, for me.  This includes ladies...  All I’m trying to say is,  going sly I think saved my life...   I never have regrets in my life, but am thankfull that I did not wait a single day longer to do it...

If there’s any young guys reading this post thinking your too young to go bald.  And the sly look don’t fit you...  Well, you’re never too young.  And sure, the sly look may not work 100% for you now.  BUT looking like BOZO and wearing caps and hats all the time is even worse...

(will post some pics soon)

If I should wake up tomorrow morning, and all my hair grew back; I'd still shave it all off!!  Thank God I'm Bald!!

Great post--glad to see you're ready to deal with life, rather than the non-issue of mpb. You're in front of it now, and I'm not all that anxious to see the befores, cause like I have said, regret rein--regret nothing, everything begins today.  O0

Great post.  I think we've all experienced looking back at old photographs and discovering that things were much worse than we'd realized at the time.

OK, so I just wanted to give a bit of feedback of my last couple of days...

Good for you.  Shaving your head and resolving the hair loss issue often results in a boost of confidence that helps you to make other positive changes in your life.  It's like a re-birth in many ways, an important first step in a journey that may take you to places you never expected.

If there’s any young guys reading this post thinking your too young to go bald.  And the sly look don’t fit you...  Well, you’re never too young.  And sure, the sly look may not work 100% for you now.  BUT looking like BOZO and wearing caps and hats all the time is even worse...

No, you're never too young.  I was about 20 years old when I first started noticing recession at my hairline; it had probably started a year or two earlier.  Shaving wasn't an option then; nobody was doing it.  In that respect, I was lucky that the MPB progressed very slowly and it was several years before it really became obvious -- and by then the shaved look was starting to catch on.  If I were 20 years old and balding today, I wouldn't hesitate to shave.   Don't make the mistake of trying to hang onto your hair as long as you can -- just get rid of it as soon as you notice it's starting to thin.  It will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

The thing to remember is -- you're going to look just fine bald. You aren't going to look fine with thinning hair and attempting to disguise it.  You have to let go of the mental image you have of what you're "supposed" to look like.  Twenty years ago, I never thought I'd turn out to look like a bouncer.  It took some getting used to, but I'm OK with it now.  Just stop resisting and let the positive changes happen.

Congratulations on enrolling in university.  Always remember that you have a responsibility to keep that noggin scraped clean as a shining example to all those younger guys on campus.   ;)

I'm 23 and a postgrad student, I'm one of few sly guys walking around campus, as the younger students tend not to be as far along in MPB. I feel like I stand out, but not like I'm old, mostly I think it is not obvious with the shaving that I am balding and probably most just think it is a haircut style. Hopefully my head can act as a beacon of inspiration for any young guys around that are starting to lose hair.

I'm sure it is.  I can remember in my pre-sly days seeing sly guys on the train to work in the morning and wishing I could just get up the guts to do it myself.  They were inspiring to me, though they'll never know it.  Just remember you could be providing the same kind of inspiration to somebody else.  I knew I was running out of excuses when I started seeing sly guys in business suits.
