Head shave in New Zealand
« on: November 01, 2012, 11:18:11 AM »
Hey guys, I'll be in New Zealand for a few weeks towards the end of the year.  Does anyone know of a barbers in Auckland or Christchurch who does a good traditional headshave? I'm also thinking of trying the bald and beard look.  What do you guys think?  Many thanks.

That he is!

As for bald and bearded, I'm quite biased on the look. But the combo goes well together, and I think that everyone should try it once! Just give it the old 30 day rule, except instead of shaving, you are night shaving for 30 days, at the end of the 30 days you should have a rocking beard! I don't know what style of beard you are interested in, but if you need any pointers, I'm sure that someone can point you in the right direction.

I think you should try it.  I love the look.  Not for me, I'm too gray, makes me look older.  You are a handsome sly guy  :@`

Agree with you, there.

Just try that B & B combo.

Thanks for your advice and encouragement.  Tomorrow is the day for the head shave. I've found a couple of barbers here in Auckland that seem to do the full traditional experience - Mr Barber in Epsom and Mt Eden Barbers.  So I'll give one of them a go and let you know how it goes. I'll post some pics of before and after too.  It's been a while since I was BBC for various reasons so there is quite a lot to cut off!  As for the beard, it's coming along OK after 3 weeks or so - apart from the odd grey hair! So I'm going to keep it and see what it looks like with a slick dome.  I think it's a great look.  I'm just not sure I'll pull it off.

Hey guys.  So I went to my chosen Auckland Barber yesterday only to find that he didn't do razor shaves after all - apparently it's pretty rare here.  Instead he buzzed me down with some 00 clippers and then edgers , so pretty close but not totally smooth. He then tidied up the beard which looks much better. I've posted some pictures here, including before. Let me know what you think.

I took the Mach 3 to my head in the shower last night to get my head smooth. I've not shaved in the shower before and was pretty nervous about cutting myself and missing bits.  But it was pretty easy once I got going, although it took a while!   I shaved first with the grain and then against to get as smooth as I could (still had so sandpaper bits though..) I have to say, I'm really loving the look including with the beard. But honest feedback welcome!
