Title: Saying hi
Post by: timbit on March 30, 2017, 11:17:23 AM
Hi there,

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. This seems like a cool place with lots of really supportive (and handsome lol) guys!

Been dealing with hair problems for a number of years now... some receding hairline and thinning but the main thing has been a large bald spot on the side of my head due to alopecia areata.  It appeared maybe 6 years ago and hasn't really improved. I've been seeing a dermatologist for a couple years now getting steroid injections and topical medicines, but it's not working and I'm tired of getting poked and wasting money on it. I've also got a nasty looking scar just behind my hairline that is another little bald spot. I just need to accept the hair isn't coming back and move on.

The receding hairline doesn't bother me so much but the bald spots have seriously hurt my confidence. I've basically lived in a hat for the past couple years and it's gotten to the point where I'll actively try to avoid situations where I can't wear a hat. There's probably people I've met more recently who've never seen me without one! lol Anyway, I'm really tired of living like that! I need to live my life without being bogged down by something as stupid as hair.

I've already been cutting my hair quite short for a long time (usually a 1 or 2 on the clippers) so shaving it all off isn't a huge change, but it's enough that it definitely is going to take some getting used to (at least for me). I took the plunge this past Sunday and I definitely think it helps minimize the appearance of the bald spots. Like most people, I'm a bit self conscious about my head shape but my boyfriend says it's totally normal lol. I think the biggest thing will be getting used to not wearing a hat constantly.

Anywho, sorry for the wall of text lol. I've attached a "before" pic and some new ones to show off the noggin!

I think the shaved look suits you. You have a strong face shape and the new haircut accentuates your cool beard, your glasses and your eyes.
You look good, man!

Hey Tim, welcome. One thing you don't have to worry about is your head shape, looks very good.

Congratulations on taking the step and shaving your head. It looks good and will look even better with a little color on it. You'll be surprised, in a couple weeks everyone will be used to the bald look. So ditch the hats and show off that great new haircut! Except of course protect your noggin in the sun.

Welcome.  Your head shape is as perfect as it can be, and the shaved head looks better than your buzz cut photo.

Definitely  a better look.  Use suntan cream until you get a bit more colour on the newly exposed  scalp.

Welcome, and without a doubt the shaved look is your best. For some that is not always the case.

looks handsome as hell in the photos. you look ten years younger.

total rock'n look, head shape, glasses, facial hair etc.

i think you can relax because you found the look that makes your receding hairline irrelevant.

Thanks jbrit, chrisphilly and bbc2012!

I'm still feeling a little insecure about it but I'm getting more and more used to it. I'm sure I'm being my own worst critic here. A lot of times I think I look really badass lol and love the new look, but sometimes a certain angle or the way the light hits it, I'll not like it so much. But I have to say it feels amazing to not wear a hat and feel the air on my head! haha

So far most people haven't really said anything, or said they liked it! Haven't had any negative comments yet :)
