My first tattoo
« on: June 23, 2016, 08:33:08 AM »
I've been away from the site for a while. As some of you may know, my oldest son (15yo) passed away in April unexpectedly. He had a heart condition but had a great checkup the day before - it was just a freak occurrence. He collapsed while skateboarding.

I've never been opposed to tattoos but never thought there would be anything that I'd want permanently on my body. I'd always said if I got one, it would have to be a memorial tattoo.

These two photos are what I gave him as ideas...

This is the finished piece.

Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Looks great, Doug! Was it painful? BTW, I know I may have said it again and again, but we all here send our continued prayers and love to you, Becca and your other sons. What a nice way to honor Gabe!

It wasn't painful so much as is was uncomfortable. I'd describe it as a vibrating, scratching sensation. Don't get me wrong though. There were a few spots where the pucker factor was high.

Thanks for the continued prayers Harry!

That is an amazing piece, Doug.

You have been in my thoughts and prayers.

Although I am not a great fan of tattoos I thought that as a memorial to your son it will be an amazing reminder of him in your lives.  My thoughts from Australia to you and your family.  Keep strong.

Sorry to hear about your son, Doug.  There is no greater loss than the loss of a child.   My prayers are with you and your family.

Hey Doug, I saw this on FB and love it!!  What a great tattoo to memorialize Gabe with.

Wow, it's a real piece of art. I'm sorry about your son and I think that this tattoo is a great decision of a strong man. I know that some people also make tattoos of angels as a memory like on a picture, but yours is really deep and impressive.
