Will the shaved head look suit me?
« on: January 16, 2016, 12:16:34 PM »
I've always worn my hair at a medium length. I've always had a fringe going on throughout my life. When I went to college, I decided that the fringe made me look like I was still in high school, so I chose to grow my hair out. At some point, I realized that my hairline looks like someone that's about 30 years old, and I'm probably going to look like Michael Stipe by the time I hit 30.

Because I've never really worn my hair short, I don't really know what short hair styles will suit me, so my choice of shaving my head is two fold: 1. to figure out how I'll look with a shaved head and 2. to try different hair styles as it slowly grows back out.

I don't want to completely shave my head like this guy. I don't think I would look good. Instead, I was thinking of leaving some hair like Adam Levine or this guy.

So I have a few questions:
Will this hairstyle look good on me?
What razor number creates the cut that I'm looking for (0, 1, 2)?
If you don't think I would look good with a shaved head, what other hair styles would you recommend?
Should I go to a barber or just go to Great Clips?
Should I lose the glasses and wear contacts?

I'm a little overweight for my height (about 200lbs while standing at 5'10''), but I figure that losing the weight will improve the look and give better definition to my face.

From those pictures, I'd guess you're looking at a #2/3. If you're unsure, then you could always try something like a high and tight (something conservative like a #3 on top with a fade) and then decide after that if you wish to keep it like that, go shorter or regrow it, that's how I started off. Might sound like a cop out, but I'd say any hairstyle carried with confidence suits.

I agree with Reg - the pictures look like a 2 or 3.  I'd suggest going to a barber and having him/her do the initial cut since your hair is pretty long to start with.  One approach is to start with a shorter haircut and then buzz down over a period of time until you get to a length you like.  If you go a step further than you like, it won't take long to correct itself.  One thing to note is that once you cut your hair very short, you'll notice that it grows pretty quickly so if you want to maintain the short buzz look, you'll be buzzing much more frequently than you might expect.

A couple other points.  When you buzz down, it will be a dramatic change since you've kept your hair pretty long.  It will take time for you and your friends and family to adjust to the change in your appearance, so stick with it for a while.  Second, a short buzz is very low maintenance (other than the frequency of buzzing I mentioned above).  you don't have to worry about drying and styling.  There's no such thing as "hat hair" or "bed hair" and no problems on windy or wet days.

As to how you'll look with a very short buzz, you'll look fine.  Don't worry about the glasses at this point.  Get adjusted to the length of hair you want, then decide if you want to make the switch to contacts.

Have to agree with the others # 2 or 3. How will it look on you ? There is only one way to find out. Either way it will take a little time to adjust to the new look.

Give shaving a shot. Most guys find that they really like it.  Head to a barber and tell them to take it all off as this will be the easiest way the first time.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Go with a #1 or no guard. After a few weeks, i doubt you'll turn back.

I personally think you would look great with a shaved head and your glasses.  If you are concerned, just keep going shorter and shorter and see how it looks and if it makes you happy.  I think you will love shaving your head once you do it and try it...the 30 days is a great way to see how it works for you.
