Balder than I've ever been
« on: May 22, 2017, 05:24:52 PM »
Hi, everyone...

My name's James.  I'm 29, from London, and I've never had much interest in my hair.  It would look good post-barber trip, before rapidly descending back into scruffiness until the next time.  Such was my disinterest, "next time" would invariably be after a long enough break for it to start detracting from my appearance.  What was on my head was never my crowning glory, and at one point was a source of legitimate stress and frustration, but that's a whole other story.  My hair and I?  Uneasy allies.

Years go by, and I start getting signs from the universe.  A judge on a TV show who was fighting a battle that was probably lost a decade ago got me wondering about hair loss - why doesn't he do something about it?  A fantastic comb-over I saw while out walking, dancing in the wind on a poor man's head, led me back to the topic some weeks later.  That's when I stumbled across this site, and read through a lot of the threads.  I knew that should the day come, I'd be buzzing it at a minimum.

Curious as I now was, I decided to see what was going on up top for me, and whipped out my camera, with some thinning around the crown being the result.  Not a catastrophe - especially when dry - but enough visible scalp to make me see that the road to a lack of hair had clearly been embarked upon.  I'd guess a majority of men would be dismayed, but I was rather excited about the dramatic change in appearance that was now only a matter of time.

I spent a little while fretting about my head shape and trying to work out whether or not I'd look monstrous, but ended up shrugging my shoulders and buzzing it down using a #1 guard.  I liked it and I didn't.  That could have been an "oh well, it isn't for me" moment and the end of the journey, but instead I went over it again without a guard.  Much better!  I've realised that I'm happy between a guardless buzz up to approaching a #1, but curiosity got the better of me tonight and I took a (not particularly good) razor to it.  I'm not sure if it's a keeper just yet, but I can say that I've done it, and can also confirm what you already know - it feels bloody fantastic.

Welcome James!
That's a great look on you.  Give it 30 days, and I think you will be ready to keep it that way for good.  O0

Haha, badder than ever?  Can't say I've had those particular words directed at me before, but I'll take them!

You look like a goddamn freak. Your forhead is huge. Get a hair transplant. Just being honest.
