Title: Minimum SPF?
Post by: Christian S on May 18, 2017, 03:54:21 PM
I don't want to go overkill on SPF, so whats the minimum that I should use on my head?
I want it to darken up and tan some, but I don't want to get skin cancer either lol.

I would say 15 SPF, but given that summer is coming, you might want to try 30 SPF.

I have an SPF 10 moisturiser I use daily, but I also keep an SPF 30 sunscreen for when I know i'll be getting a lot of sun.

I've had 3 or four small skin cancers one was a melanoma on my ear. I use a wide brim hat in the summer spf lotions are only partially protective.

My derm says 30.  I tend to breakout with most standard sunblocks, so I try to use moisturizers with SPF, rather than standard sunblock.

What's a good moisturizer with SPF?

Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturizer is fantastic, has an SPF of 20, but is a bit on the pricey side.  I've used it on my face for a while now, and it's very nice on the head too.  Tyler did a review of it in one of his videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jkHzIJ15bc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jkHzIJ15bc)

my understanding is that 15 offers about 95% protection then 30 / 45 are more upwards of 97-98% protection (something i read a while back).

For those in the uk, I use boots own brand No7 moisturiser which has spf15 and is also anti-shine (apparently).

Then if im going to be under the sun a lot i might spray on some of  the neutrogena dry mist sunblock (not greasy at all) in spf 45

Hey Guys,
My first time posting anything here; glad to be on board.
I have had far too much experience with skin cancer, so I tend to be more conservative than some other guys.
My take is an SPF 30 is the way to go BUT that means you'll need to reapply it fairly frequently since it sweats off at varying rates depending on temp, humidity, how many times you rub your hands on your head, etc.
The best protection (and I know this isn't what you wanted to hear) is a hat! We think of tanning as healthy but the fact of the matter is that it's still damaging skin and the skin on our heads can be pretty sensitive, especially if you're newly bald/shaven. Personally, I hate wearing a hat but I'm a trail runner and there is no way I can use sunscreen that will last and/or stay out of my eyes.

Hi All-

Any good dermatologist will tell you that every man should use at least an SPF of 30 daily. The trouble is most are sticky...but thats way our Complete Face Care Lotion is different as it is non-greasy while offering this protection. Hope this helps!

Agree with ZoD , during bright sun wear a wide brim hat. You will be sorry in a few years if you didn't.
