Bald at 19
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:30:47 AM »
I first stared losing my hair at the early age of 19. I was really devastated by this as none of my friends were losing their hair and I felt like somewhat of an outcast. I went through my own form of denial and tried silly remedies to stop the onslaught of falling follicle including going to a quack hair restoration expert who had a bunch of specials tonics that would restore my hair (ya, I was that desperate.). Anyway I progressed to wearing  several hairpieces up until my mid thirties when I decided I  had HAD enough of the maintenance involved with them and opted to wear a ball cap instead. Finally on my 40th birthday I gave my self the special present of self confidence and acceptance that this was the way I was meant to be and I finally became comfortable with being bald. I still find it  strange that people where I work  often say they cant believe my age...they think I look much younger. Now I like my bald head and feel that being attractive is more in how you present yourself to the world. Attitude most all the difference...it really does.

Welcome, and you made some good points. The looking younger also applies to us guys with grey hair, few people believe I'm 60. You look great.
Bald by choice, and loving it!

Thanks for sharing that with us baldcanuck!  You certainly did the right thing by shaving it off.

reddog: You truly don't look 60. You're definitely a young 60 year old.

Being near bald at 19 isn't that uncommon for guys as far as I am aware.

I first started losing hair at about 16, but it wasn't that noticeable, really. When I joined the army reserves (Territorial Army) at 17 it was a bit more noticeable when I had my hair buzzed off. I was given a #1 and blended/faded #0 back and sides by the troop barber. My first ever really short haircut. My next haircut after that was a shaved high & tight (recon) which I kept more or less until I was about 21. After I left the army reserves I grew my hair back out again and got my first proper head shave when I was about 26.

By the way, welcome to this great forum.

Looking younger is such an amazing benefit we enjoy! :)

I got checked for ID more often after shaving my head than before haha

I must be the exception, people that dont know me put 10 years on my age if asked to guess.
