Well, as of this morning, I have lost 13 lbs.  I fell off the wagon in terms of getting to the gym.  But I have done pretty good in terms of trying to eat better.  When I started this weight loss, I was originally 221 lbs and now I am at 208.  However about 2 years ago, I was 240.  So to put it into perspective, I am at least going down!

You know I found that just eating right has really helped boost my weightloss....awesome job...keep it up!

Well, everyone...I have fallen off the wagon big time.  I gained all my weight back.  But I am going to try again.  This last year has been pretty stressful and I use food as a comfort.  I am wanting to get back to the gym and start eating properly.  I do have one more hurdle.  Sunday, friends are taking me out for a belated birthday dinner to the Cheesecake Factory.  Free food, including cheesecake is something that I won't turn down.  But I know that continual splurges are not good.  So I am hoping to become more disciplined after that.

Don't beat yourself up over it.  Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and climb back on that wagon (after Sunday, of course   ;D ).  The past is the past -- focus on the future and try to find a realistic program that you can stick to.

Don't go on a total deprivation diet; you can only keep that up for so long.  I found that just getting some exercise in regularly helps.  Don't give up everything you like all at once -- eliminate unhealthy foods from your diet gradually.  Find healthier alternatives, and when you get used to them, think about eliminating another unhealthy food or two.  Eventually your tastes change and you develop new favorites.  It may take a little longer to get to your goal weight this way, but I've found that it's easier to stick to and works better in the long term.

Happy belated birthday.  Enjoy that cheesecake.   ;D

Yeah...I know how frustrating it is to go through a whirl-wind of "life" and then find yer back where you started.

Like razor said, don't waste energy mourning the gain....just get back at it and try to learn from the "backsliding" (ouch...bad analogy).

Hey Marshall,

One thing I find with myself is that if I'm lax on the gym and with diet for a while I try to overcompensate by doing a LOT of gym; drasitic dieting; etc.  Resist this temptation.  But do try to get to the gym; do 30 mins. of easy cardio .    slow and steady.

And try not to feel guilty about the 'splurges'.  just resolve to do better and try to make the gym a habit.

Hey everyone!

Just want to update you all on some progress!  After my last post, things have gotten better.  Anyway, in February I bought a new bathroom scale and got scared at what I saw. in terms of my weight.  I was 245 lbs. and 5' 8".  That is not good.  You see, I have a sly friend that is like me in so many way.  He had been 265 lbs and is diabetic.  He had lost some weight and was 245.  While he is a great guy and looks great sly, I don't want to be like him in terms of the diabetes that he has. 

Anyway, I have started going back to the gym.  I am not on a "strict" diet officially.  But I am trying to make more sensible choices.  I now have lost 15 lbs.  So I am feeling better about things. 

But I am also going to a support group at my church called, "Celebrate Recovery".  It is a Christ centered ministry that helps people with hurts habits and hang ups. Many churches host this ministry.  So you can be dealing with various things like food addiction, drug, alcohol and sexual addiction.

But I am finding that having a support network has helped me with this.  So whether or not you are in a group like the one I am in or not, I am thinking that some kind of support group is helpful.  I guess that is why Weight Watchers is helpful.

I have to say that my weaknesses are things like KFC extra crispy are downfalls as are really crunchy onion rings.  Also Cold Stone Creamery and Dairy Queen are dangerous places for me!

Marsh, I have found portion control is the key.  Always try to leave food on your plate.  Un-learn the "clean-your-plate" stuff you learned as a kid.  I also love the fried foods and ice cream and haven't given anything up, totally.  But once you get into your diet routine, it can feel very empowing to not eat everything on your plate and it becomes a challenge to eat just enough to be satisfied and not inhale all your food.  I've also found that eating slowly and chewing your food thoroughly helps to give your body a chance to feel full.

I am learning about portion control.  The other day, my boss brought in pizza for us to eat.   
I usually have 3 or 4 slices at a sitting.  But I had already packed a lunch so I had my salad but not my soup.  I had ONE slice of pizza.  I ended up taking more slices but with the intention of eating them over a period of several days.  So I supplemented my food budget but supplemented each slice of pizza with salad and fruit.  I even ended up losing weight even while eating pizza.  Again, I have also  been exercising.
