Starting a fad
« on: January 23, 2007, 06:22:07 AM »
Back in the fall of 1998, my family and I moved to Grand Forks, BC and over the course of that winter, I lost a lot of hair.  Probably 1/2 to 2/3s of my hair.  So in the spring of 1999, I decided to shave my head.  I didn't go right bald but took it down to a close pigshave and let it grow back.  This was the first time I had done this.
As it grew in, different patches were in different stages of growth varying in colour and thickness from the initial white baby hairs to the thicker silverish brown (soft and silky) and to its natural colour and thickness.
At first I was very self-concious of it but by the end of summer we were seeing kids on the streets in Grand Forks who were bleaching and dying their hair in a mottled fashion, conspicuously resembling mine.  Of course they had weird haircuts to match the weird colouring but I no longer felt so alone.   ;D

It's always fun when you can start a fad.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Starting a fad was what initialy led me to feel confident about my new appearance.  At the time I worked in the EMS community (lot of men).  I was the first to shave and I did it all at once so I got a huge reaction, but soon after that about 10 other guys shaved too.  I was told privately that my move inspired others to do the same thing.

Dude, This is more than a fad, its a lifestyle.  I think its great how we are helping others become comfortable with themselves, to take that next step, Just Do It as it were.  About time we stopped having to hide behind False Hair and appearance, about time Style became  Functional, Practical, and a true statement of oneself not necessarily based on superficial BS.  Raise the Flag, and Wave it Proud!!!  Now I know why Pirates were always willing to go the Bald way, they never cared what everyone else thought!  Here's to getting two types of Bootie!  !*!rat3
