About to do it
« on: January 02, 2017, 03:31:26 PM »
Hello Guys,

I'm 52 with a nice horseshoe and I think I've convinced myself to shave it clean.  One of my concerns is that I am fair skinned and I am worried about bumps, ingrown hair, etc. after my first shave.  Can anyone suggest any products that might help prevent those issues from happening as well as how I should go about my first shave?

Thanks

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys! How long is your hair now?

Yes! When I first started shaving, I used Bump Patrol. Got it at Wal-Mart, it worked great. Didn't need it after a while when the skin got toughened up.

Good luck, I hope you like it!

I would say 3/4"-1" sides and back.  Top is long gone.

Thanks.  Which Bump Patrol product did you use?

Ok. I would go to a barber or use some clippers to take it down to a 0. Then later that day or the next day take a razor to it.

Use a good shave cream like HeadSlick, Pacific Shaving, Bee Bald, or Cremo Shave Cream. Let the razor do the work for you and don't push down to hard with it. Go with the grain on the first pass and then against the grain.

Thanks for the advice.  Any razor suggestions?  I've always used a Norelco to shave my face, so a razor will be new to me.  I did order a Headblade Moto.  Wise choice?

Thanks

Welcome!

When I started shaving for good almost nine years ago,  I clippered it down first and then I used Bic twin disposable razors. Once I got my technique down, I started using safety razors.  The Headblade is a good tool, I would just take my time.  Best of luck!
