G'day Debbie, welcome to the family! It's certainly not sappy to think of it that way, I've always thought of us like a family :D

Don't worry about talking too much, there is a lot of topics to spread yourself across so you'll be fine :D

Speaking of using an Austrakianism, I have a friend from Perth Australia and we used to talk all the time.   Anyway, I had the refidgerator repair man out here today and I was telling him what the ice maker was doing and I said "then it chucked a wobbly".  He looked at me like "huh".  That is the one phrase the he used to say all the time and I have picked up on it and I tend to say it quite a bit.

Yes! That reminds me of my scottish boss a couple of years ago, he had only been in Australia for 2 years (I think), so he still had a really strong accent, and hearing him trying to talk in what he thought was an Aussie accent to say the phrases that we commonly use was always a hoot! Over here we say "no worries" a lot, in reply to being asked to do something, or well... a lot of other things really. and hearing him say that... always almost had me rolling on the ground.

He taught me one of what we used to call his "Neilisms", which was "giving me the pants", which means something like, you are annoying me, over here we say "giving me the s#!ts". I think it's a great saying haha.
